Default Removing Oil Filter without Taking off Diffuser

Has anyone who has the aero package tried to take off their oil filter through the small gap in their underbody diffuser?

I don't have a spare oil filter sitting around to use to test it out at the moment, but I'm considering buying that drain plug with the nipple on it in hopes of being able to change my oil without having to remove the entire underbody diffuser. The only problem is whether or not the oil filter will fit through that little gap in the diffuser.

Has anyone else tried this setup for oil changes?
I'd appreciate any pro/con input on this appraoch at simplifying the overly complex process of changing the oil on a coupe with aero(21 screws need to be removed...yuck).

Thx!

I'm definitely picking up the fumoto valve.
But I had a lift, I can just unscrew a few screws that hold the diffuser and bend it downward. But for the mean time, I'm getting a automatic screwdriver.
The filter for the vq engine is really small, I don't think it'll be a problem to fit it in the gap, but having oil spill in the diffuser.

Yeah I was thinking about that oil spill thing when I posted this.
My intended resolution would probably be to grab an old rag and lay it out on the diffuser. I don't recall that much oil dripping out from around my oil filer the first time I changed it, so there probably wouldn't be astronomical amounts of oil spillage going on...at least nothing that a rag wouldn't absorb.

I dont have my G35c yet (ordered the 05 6mt) but I change the oil on my wifes FX35 all the time. The FX has an underbody diffuser that's screwed in with a bunch of screws as well. I plan on making an access panel for the oil filter and drain plug. It takes longer to remove the diffuser than changing the oil and filter!

You guys need someone to design a front diffuser like Top Secret's 350Z one w/the hole in it for oil drain'n. I thought that was cool until I saw the nice $900 MSRP. OUCH.

OD, I was thinking about ripping that thing out.
Do you think the diffuser's really do anything? It's not like I'm traveling at mach 1. sigh.

What I'd be interested in hearing about is how the cabin temperature is affected, if at all, by the removal of the diffuser. My suspicion is that much of the interior's abnormally high temp is caused by hot underbody air that the diffusers hold in place by preventing airflow.

Permitting underbody airflow should help reduce unwanted cabin heating, and I would be curious to know if this has been anyone's experience, who has removed the diffuser that is.....

I would not remove it for the simple fact that it prevents debris from entering the engine bay...

Yes, the filter will fit through that hole in the diffuser but it's a mess. The best way is to stuff some paper towels on top of the diffuser, loosen the filter until the oil starts to drain, let it drain all out, then remove the filter. by the way, don't titghten the new filter too tight, only 3/4 to 1 turn from when the gasket makes contact (hand tightened). It will be hard to get a wrench on that filter. Those plastic ramps at Autozone work great.

Hey 240G...

By any chance, did you get your name due to your G35's predecessor being a 240SX?

I've used one on my old camaro, until i drove it on a lift in a garage and the lift hit the fumato drain plug and I had to replace the oil pan. It's great that oil changes were so easy, but what an expensive fix once it was hit and broke off.
