I posted a few days ago about how hard it was to find a coupe with manual but no sunroof. Well, I spent much time searching the dealer's inventory through infiniti.com and found 3 in northern CA! All were 6MT base models w/o premium package. All had the $70 trunk mat, one had dealer installed spoiler. I wound up driving over to Valley Infiniti in Modesto to buy a diamond graphite/graphite, about a 200 mile round trip from San Jose but definately worth it. I was able to do all pricing over the phone, dealer stayed 1hr past closing for me, was in and out in maybe 30 minutes. Was very pleased with that particular dealer. Also talked to the fleet manager up in Elk Grove, nice guy, offered buying tips (basically he said talk only to fleet managers not sales people) even after I told him I found my color choice elsewhere. The third dealer, in Colma, I got stuck talking to some salesdude, absolutely refused to give me a price over the phone, I had to "come down to the dealership to show manager I was a serious buyer", the usual sales pitch. What's up with that?
Very impressed with the handling and performance of the coupe, never driven anything with such strong brakes. I'm talking like its mine, but it actually will be going to the wife, I'm just breaking it in for her. []
One question, so what's the deal with searches and trading cars among dealerships? I mean, do they do this only among a subset of dealers or what? I had to search myself for this vehicle. Previously I had gone to a local dealership who I assumed could easily search any Infiniti dealership. But they came back and said that they could only find automatic coupes, all in San Diego. And here by myself I found 3 in N. CA. And many more than that automatic coupes.
I believe if the dealers wanted to they can search anywhere. My dealer brought my car in from CA almost 2 months ahead of when he promised it and even before that he found me a car in LA but was unable to get it in.
I'm thinking the dealer wanted to make the larger profit on a car with a sunroof or just wanted to sell you the vehicles on their lot to move inventory.

I'm lazy and didn't read your post but the heading was enough. Congrats on finding one in the first place and welcome to the owner's circle. Post pics ... I don't think i've seen a G sans the moonroof
I, too, hate the "you have to come here" sales pitch. I actually had a dealer tell me that they would have to physically go out to the lot to look at the options on the vehicles. I said, "OK."
They didn't want to do that and reminded me what a short trip it was from my location to Madison (about an hour), and again suggested I come up there to look at their selection.
I replied that it was a much shorter trip for them to walk to the parking lot to look for me.
Needless to say I didn't even go there. I drove farther the next day to go look at the G35 at a dealership that was friendly and gave me the information I wanted.
Moral of the story? The "sales pitch" of trying to get me on the lot rather than do things over the phone lost them a possible sale. I refuse to deal with anyone who doesn't have respect for my time.
I agree. Before I came in, my sales guy actually asked me what I was looking for over the phone, and gave me options. He knew I was going to be using a VPP, and streamlined the process as much as possible. I gave him the acceptable exterior colors, the preferred interior, and he said he'd check what was available. He called back a few minutes later and gave me the info, and I made my decision. I came in later that day and did the deal. I believe I spent more time in the finance guys office going over potential options (lojack, extended warranty, etc..) than I did filling out paperwork. It was great.

Congratulations thomase! Hope you and the wife are enjoying the new car![]
Sorry to hear that the dealership couldn't find what you wanted to start with. It would have made it alot easier for you! My dealership did a trade for mine. From what I understood....they only trade with certain places.

Congratulations on finding what you wanted. I have seen only one other 6MT without a sunroof. If I recall correctly, instead of the titanium painted console it has more of a gray/charcoal color on the plastic....it that how your's is? I too asked my Dealer to find a specific vehicle for me, he did, but the other Dealer ended up selling it. I asked my Dealer to find another.....he did but it was twice the distance away and since I was going to have to pay the transport costs, I decided to do my own search using the Infiniti Inventory Locater.....I found my car at a closer Dealer and called my Dealership up and we worked out the deal.
The dealers will first try to sell the cars off there lots, makes sense to them to push cars they are paying interest on. They can find cars on other dealer lots if they can't talk you into buying what they have on theirs. Problem is that they usually have to make some sort of trade with the other dealer or there is usually some sort of cost to aquire the car. Of course they pass that along to you to pay anway. Some times they can locate the car on another lot but the other dealer is unwilling to let the car go. This was my case. I found the car I wanted on one lot yet when I went to another dealer to make a better deal they didn't have the car I wanted but told me they could get it. But the original dealer didn't want to let the car go and would not trade with the second dealer. So the second dealer found a third dealer that had a car I wanted with a few extra options which I was able to knock down on the price since I really didn't want the options (but secretly I did).
So to make a long story short they do have the ability to search other inventory on other lots as well as know what they will be receiving off the boat.

Yep, don't know that there's any difference between premium/non-premium consoles, but mines more grayish than titantium looking.
