I used to live in Southern Illinois, drove 1000 miles a week. In the spring and summer, I swear the birds were encouraging each other as I've had no less than 3-4 dozen instances when birds would swoop out of the flock to try to fly under/near/around my car. In a few cases, I had the bird make it to fly out the back end.
I've even seen it from behind, following a car that had a bird swoop down and go underneath the car in front of me, pull up and clear my car as it climbed back up.
I've had bird swing around my car, get within inches of my windshield (and drop a load on it to prove it was that close).
'Course, driving 90k miles in 3 years for work alone makes for a lot of opportunity.

related note - i hit the sheit out of a pigeon last sunday. similar to kalmairn's story, i'm sure y'all have seen it, birds are flying along and just decide to get as close as possible.
well this big fat gutterbird got too close. my driver's side mirror caught it solidly, it went WHACK and flew up and back into the ditch.
maybe someone will knock you into the gutter one day and drive off mad becuase you got in the way

Dude, quell the anger. It's a freakin' pidgeon.
I was going 60 mph when a flock of little black birds was flying in the direction I was going and all of them but one swooped either up or sideway but that one poor creature kept going the same way and I hit it with my windshield. Nothing happened to the windshield (just heard a soft thud) but the poor bastard fell on the road shoulder.
Another time I was cruising really slow (20mph) in a residential area and some stupid parrots flew up from the side of the road and one of them hit the passenger side window. Poor bastard... broke his neck and died.
I think my favorite bird related incident was in my first car. I was driving in a residential area towards my gf's house with my window open cuz I was smoking. A robin happens to fly directly into my car and splat it self on the closed passenger window. I nearly shat myself. The thing was stunned but flew away after I stopped and opened the door for it.
Anyone ever find a dead bird jammed in their radiator?
A few of my work-buddies and I went out for lunch last week in my friends Hyundai Accent(Yes...sad) and hit a small bird while on the highway. We thought nothing of it at the time. We were going to lunch again this week in his car again, and we were king joking about his car, so he pops the hood to show off the potent powerplant that lay beneath it. When we were laughing at hte engine, I noticed a bird was jammed into his radiator. It must have been the one from last week. We got a stick and peeled his body out of the bird-shaped indent which now exists in his radiator.
partyman - I'm torn in your story between my hatred of birds and my hatred of Hyundai. I'm happy the bird is gone but then a part of me wishing it took the Hyundai with it
The Hyundai is actually being replaced in a few days by a new Ford Escape.
I guess he decided to take the incremental approach at car manufacturer improvements throughout his life.
