Default My 2 days at Skip Barber in Lime Rock CT.

My son and I did the 2 day performance driving course yesterday and today. What fun. You learn a bunch. This is my 2nd time. I went about 11 years ago and I promised I would take my son when he was old enough. He is now 17 and you should have seen his eyes open up!

We started out on Neon R/T sticks. I have more respect for those little cars now as well. Panic stops, lane switch and high speed lane switch. Then on to the skid pad with Dodge Dakota trucks and later a Dodge Magnum. We commandeered the Magnum in the early afternoon and soon were power sliding around the skid pad. That thing is awesome. Hemi V8 and torque galore!

Today (2nd day) we started on the 1/4 autocross track. Kind of a jelly bean shaped course with cones to simulate an apex. We had the Neons screaming for mercy around the track. Then it was time for owners cars. One guy from NY brought his new Maserati Spider(4500 miles). Another brought his daughter with her Subaru Forester. You should have seen that thing on the course! Not bad at all.

Then came time to drive the G35. I was a little nervous not having really hung this car out at all on the street. All I can say is that it is very capable. When you turn the VDC off, everything associated with it goes off. It does not affect the ABS and I didn't want to mess with that anyway.

Down to the first quick right turn, I stood on the go pedal and immediately had to hit the stop pedal to slow down. No ABS kick in. On the accelerator to quickly and the back end started to slide to the left. Quick catch and back on the brake for a quick slowdown for the chicane. Out of the chicane to a sweeping right hander and back down the long straight with a jog left and setup for the beginning right turn again. 5 laps went by in a flash! The ABS intervened only once per lap and that was at the end of the long straight.

After the instructor got out after driving, he commented on the balance and the power. He was impressed and it gave me an idea of what the Viper would be like. Almost twice as much HP!

GTO had posted this a ways back in this thread:

http://www.6mt.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5922

There is a listing in there for other racing schools and for the Skip Barber as well.

Lucky son of a ... GTO2050 []

My dad and I have talked about going to Skip Barber. One of these days...

I will have to just live vicariously through your pictures (and soon hopefully video!) instead.
