I have had an interesting MPG experience on my most recent tank - I finally went out and bought a decent tire pressure gauge and a cheap pump (it's a piece of crap actually but it'll do until I get a real air compressor) so that I can fill my tires at home.

I checked, and all 4 of them were a bit low. I topped them off and the next day I stopped to fill up the tank. This most recent tank of gas has been the best milage I've gotten. It's not outstanding (meaning approaching the 27 on the sticker) but it's the first time I have approached 24mpg and over 400 miles on a single tank since getting the car in march.

I have heard reports of how properly inflated tires can have an affect on fuel economy but I didn't think it would be so noticable (almost a 2mpg boost from my norm). Just for the record - I have not altered my driving style at all and if anything I've even done a bit more stop-and-go driving than usual but the milage is still better than any other tank. I'm nearing 6k miles on the car so I wouldn't think this is a result of further engine or drivetrain "break in". I attribute it to finally having properly inflated tires and not depending on some worthless gas station air guage for my readings.

Just thought I'd throw this out there. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I dunno, my tires are all around 36-37psi and I still barely make 300/tank. =p

Those results look about right.
I get around 19mpg too, and I'm still breaking in the
car too. So I'm driving around under 3K rpm.

Correct me if I am wrong -- but isn't 36-37 psi (cold temp) over-inflated? Everything I have read for our tires says that the cold temp pressure should be between 31-33 psi.

Well I'm sure they've lost a tiny bit of air over time so they should be fine. =P

First off though, keep in mind I have the Perf W&T Pckg, so the rubber might be different than what yours has.

Btw, it's not over-inflated, as it's not above the max psi numbers for the tires, so it's certainly safe, and my general line of thinking is that a little harder will wear better than a little too soft will.
