That XM Micro antenna is sweet. Anyone who has the "shark fin" should consider getting one. Very small. Would work great on the parcel shelf.
I myself won nuthin' [] It was a good meeting though.
Did not learn much that was that new. Here is a summary of 2005, etc, changes discussed (they admitted they don't get much information):
<ul>[*]Sedan will now have the option for a smart key (nobody knew about the coupe though)[*]Grey Leather Interior is now an option (only with certain combinations)[*]Cloth interior no longer available[*]Laser Red Color is going to change to a slightly different shade[*]Carribian Blue is out, Lake Shore Sand is in (Blue/Grey Color)[*]Most likely Base G35 will not increase in price. You will still be able to get the Performance Tire and Wheel Package with 18" wheels on the AT. The sport model will have the 19" wheels with the extra hp. And we are all assuming the extra $$$$ added to the MSRP ][*]No AWD on the Coupe planned. Not enough demand to support[*]No convertable on the coupe. The car is not engineered to support such a change. There will be a M45 convertable released as a 2006 model.[*]Stock internals of engine can support up to 600hp. With connecting rod change and some others up to 800hp[*]Grubbs will soon be the only dealer sponsoring the freshalloy.com site and will be offering special pricing through it[/list]
Great update Rob. I'm glad some 6MT'ers were able to attend. Sounds like the same info we've been hearing for a while now. I heard they would have pics there, did you get to see any? I really want to see what the new 19's will look like.
I was a little disappointed with the information that they had to present on the '05s. It was all net-available information, no details on what I would consider to be the critical aspects of the '05. The did indicate that for a 6MT/5AT Sport Coupe the price would likely be notably higher than the '04s, but no indication or qualification of that.
I wanted to know the wheel width for the 19"s, no information. The only reason to get 19"s for sport-minded drivers is the width, we want wider tires. WE WANT WIDER TIRES! (Repeat after me!)
They are delaying the production of the '05 6MT due to changes in the transmission. They are apparently hearing complaints for owners and are re-engineering the transmission to try to alleviate these concerns. The expected production start is Nov'04, which I read to be an early Jan'05 delivery for 6MTs.
We activated the Roady on the drive home, it's pretty nice. The kit is VERY cool, extremely portable and easy to use. I love the antenna, you can just put it on the rear parcel shelf and be done with it. We had it on the dash and only had fade when under overpasses.
It was a cool event, just wish there was more planned for it.
They mentioned a possibility of getting a track day (at extra cost) next spring. Grubbs! DO IT! *whee!*
I asked to see if they can organize a dyno-day again this fall, I want to baseline my 6MTc.
Kal.
'04 G35 Coupe 6MT, Black/Black, Premium Package, Aero Package w/Spoiler
Can't wait to join you guys! Should be moving up there in a couple of weeks. I will be first in line for the next dyno/track/anything-else day. I know it is a topic of great interest to most, but personally, I am only mildly interested in the 2005 G35. I have my G, and still have plenty of mods I haven't gotten to yet. I figure I can get more hp quicker and cheaper by modifications than by buying a 2005 G35. And like others have stated, a price increase only helps the resale of our "old" G35s. Great to hear about the VQ35DE being able to support 600 hp, maybe even 800 hp. I am ready to BOOST!
I prob mislead you on that one. I think the name is going to be Garnet Red. The reason Grubbs knew it was changing...they got new part numbers for the new touch-up paint.
Yes, it looked like the same picture as the press release to me. Except they had the one with the grey leather interior for the sedan.

ugh, garnet red is the "red" color used on the g35 sedan and is totally different in appearence than the "laser red" color used on the g35 coupe.
did the grubbs guys mention anything about vpp for 05?
Ahh..ok...that must have been the sedan sheet that I looked at and thought maybe that's what they changed the name to. So maybe the name will stay the same.
They did not mention VPP pricing. They only talked about "special pricing" for the DFW G35 Owner's Club.
I did not even talk to anyone about it because I am not going to buy a 2005. I think I will be driving my 2004.5 for 5 or 6 more years.
