[banghead]My car is making strange noises in idle and it is thumping my feet and the thumping is coming through the shifter as well? The dealer says it is normal and that all of these cars do this do you guys have this problem? I do not think it is normal & I really hope it is not but any help is really appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![banghead]
I love my car and really would hate to get rid of it.
thumping? You mean you can feel the engien vibrations at idle, what about other times? If you feel the vibrations of the engine through the pedals, shifter and floor, then it is rather normal. The feel of a G35 is much more raw copared to the likes of most other cars. It is where they allow the driver to eb in tune with the car, and have something that is more than numb. I like it, others hate it.
The thumping is pretty violent and it never did it before it just started to do it I had it for almost a year now. My husband has a 96 dodge viper so I know how performance cars feel. That car is very thumpy and bumpy and even the viper guys say this is strange and not normal at all!! It feels like something is trying to break through the floor and it sounds like the car is missing. Even the man at the dealer thought that then later said oh no it's fine they all do it. I called another dealer and they said they have never heard of it before.
That is not normal. Granted, it is hard to diagnose here on-line, but does the thump go away as you start to drive? I know you said that it does it at idle, but does it do it as the car is moving?
It sounds like a motor mount to me. I used to have a Porsche 944 Turbo, which had fluid filled motor mounts. When the fluid would leak out over time, the vibration of the motor would transmit throught the body of the car. It would make a shudder and thump like you describe at idle. When I would drive it would go away as the torque from the motor would twist the engine away from where it was touching the frame.....however, if I would lift throttle and put it in neutral, the thump/shudder would come back. Does this sound like your problem?
Yes as I drive it does seem to go away. It is very frustrating for them to tell me it is a normal thing. I understand that performance cars are different but it has nothing to do with that. It feels like something is trying to come through my floor. and it sounds like it is missing. And the sound is loud. Not the nice exaust sound that the car normally has. I have an appointment at a different dealer to see if they can find out what is wrong. I just wnated to know if they were right and it was normal, because if it was normal it would be very disappointing because I would expect more form this great car. I really love it and want it the way it was 2 days ago. Because it was fine then.
I hope the other Dealer's Service Department fiinds and fixes the issue so you can enjoy your car again. If I were you, I'd call Infiniti's Consumer Service line and log a complaint about the specific issue with your car AND the Dealer's poor response in addressing the issue. This will put it in Infiniti's records that you are having problems. I would then inform the new Dealer you are taking it to that you have done this because the problem with your car is not right and the first Dealer was remiss in fixing it. Then see what happens.
I don't think what she describes is considered normal for a $15k car, let alone a $35k car. [ghey]

I'd take gte's comments with a grain of salt. Sure this car isn't the top of any line, but your expectations are valid. Your experiences are certainly not normal, and if they persist, you might have a lemon. yacoub's right, no new car, regardless of price, should behave the way yours is.

The G is not a top of the line car. Don't get your expectations too high, it's only 35k.

Mabe not for you but for the majority of people 35k is a pretty expensive car ... yeah there are more expensive cars but that doesn't mean 35k is cheap. If people expect rock sold quality out of a 20k Honda Accord I don't know why we shouldn't out of a 35k Infiniti. If it were a 10k Kia Rio I would still raise hell ... if something is wrong then something is wrong.
