I got my 6MT coupe serviced today and they gave me a
5AT sedan loaner. For some reason the loaner felt
faster than my coupe, granted I was driving near
redline the entire time on the loaner. The steering
felt heavier on the sedan as well.
Anyone experienced that?
Why do people feel we need to drive the wheels off loaners and rentals? I've also been guilty of this in the past. When I was younger I had a mini van loaner- I ramped it- all four wheels off the ground at 70mph. Somewhere along the way I realized that someone, perhaps and old couple, will be buying the car I was peeling out with. What if it was you buying such a car? Granted my ethics have changed, I wouldn't go to the extent of parking a loaner at the far end of the lot.
We wouldn't want the service boys peeling out around the shop after having our car worked on. That would get us really steamed would it not?

We may not like it but it happens all the time. My friend who worked at Acura would rip the hell out of any NSX he had to work on and since he was supposed to take it on a test drive after servicing it, no one ever complained.
Cars are meant to be driven, just as what you would do in a
test drive. I wouldn't even remotely consider that abuse,
just taking it to the full potential.
The sedans I drove the steering was not as tight and responsive as in my coupe and they had more body roll. Also, the acceleration was just not the same as my coupe; although not a huge difference.
You have not been using 87 octane in your 6MT have you? [:P]
mg ... maybe you were just misinterpreted. I did not get the impression that you drove the wheels off the loaner...just ran it at the upper end of its performance.
I took my coupe up near red line all the time. That's why I bought it, to enjoy the performance. I still don't know how you got the feelign that the sedan was "faster" (assuming that ment quicker acceleration?).
Well, I guess it's just psychological. On the 5AT,
when I stepped on the gas, it downshifted and
threw me into the seat somewhat unexpectedly, which
probably gave me the impression that it was faster.
I guess I haven't driven a performance auto car for
quite a while. I actually found it kind of fun.
But one thing that I'm certain is that the sedan
did not have as much grip as the coupe. But the
steering did feel heavier, which I really like.
The sedan was a 2003 model, and my coupe is a
2004. Don't know if that makes a difference.
mg, it's not psychological. I had a loaner a couple of weeks ago and it surprised the $hiet out of me how quickly it accelerated at all speeds (part or full throttle).

Actually, I thought the coupe pulled harder at freeway speeds but the sedan responded better during city driving. I'll take high speed responsiveness any day.

Aye, but the actions of others are no excuse for how we conduct ourselves, else where would society be?
Well this is guaranteed to stir up the little natives but here goes. When picking up my '04 6mt sedan, I took a '04 6mt coupe out for a spin. I came away with the impression (again) that I made the right choice (for ME, so save your flames) after all. Love the coupe looks and, while it didn't exactly feel like a slug compared to my (admittedly broken in) '03.5 6mt sedan, I could discern ZERO advantage in the get-up-and-go dept. The sedan also felt "lighter" thru most handling maneuvers, easier to "throw around", if you will. So, I walked away happy in the knowledge that I had the same performance and much better functionality for my family needs. Plus, reaching back for the driver's seat belt was a real PITA.

There are times I think back and wonder if I should've gotten the sedan for it's better practicality. Aside from looks (not to say the sedan is ugly) and the brembo brakes ... I don't really see much difference between the coupe and the sedan.
