maybe this is a stupid question but... It says that the G35 is suppose to have 91 Octane fuel, but what do you do when all the gas stations around you offer 87, 89, or 93 Octane? Put in the 93?

I'd go with 93...always safe to go a little higher octane, but going lower can cause pinging (detonation) which is nasty on an engine.
The engine is supposed to get AT LEAST 91. I still get a tiny bit of piston knocking at very low speeds from time to time with 91. The car feels like it would be happier with 93.
yeah. cuz the engine has a higher compression in the combustion chamber so the 91 octane is the gas rating that can take that compression without igniting before the spark plug ignites it. so you'd be safe with 91 and up.. which is 93. =]
Just so long the gas doesnt combust on its own due to compression.
Go with the 93! Silly question, you just got a few more HP over the rest of us HP doing that! There is a few gas stations out my way that have 100 octane however I have yet to find out where they are. It would be a blast to see how the G runs on that high octane rocket fuel.......
I do recall an article in Car and Driver a few years back on the whole is higher octane gas better for your car thing. They used some 4 banger Hondas and found that the engines lost power when you put premium (91 and up) in as opposed to the recommended regular
My December G did not ping at all running 87 ... ran like a champ at 93
Guy at a company I do business with in FL always put 87 in his G Sedan...I never heard any pinging at all out of his...and he ran that one hard....but his is a lease and I am sure he does not care about what the engine is like when the lease is up.
I am not going to put 87 in my July G simply because the Premium in most brands had a higher detergent level...going to stick with Exxon/Mobil, Shell, Texaco, or QT and stay away from the Sam's and Quickie Mart.
In any event...if you want to get the rated hp...then use the minimum 91. Just my own speculation...I since 91 is the max you can get in some areas, they prob would not bump the fuel requirements above that. I would think it is reasonable to assume that a slightly high octane would make the car run better and have a slight increase in hp. I believe if you go to high in octane (for example putting in octane boost) you will not benefit from it because the engine is not designed to burn that fuel and get the benefits without the proper modifications.
P.S. In this thread someone claims to have gotten higher hp with 110 octane. Only way you would know for sure is to either test or talk to someone who is intimately familiar with the G35 engine design. (fly over to Japan and talk to the engineer)
