Default Bad Wheel Repainting Experience

Just got my car back this morning from Wheel Technologies in Dallas. as I had incurred some light curb damage to the front and rear passenger side rims. I dropped the car off at noon on Tuesday. The car was supposed to be ready about 6:00 on Wednesday. I got there about 5:30 to pick up the car and they said the wheels were still in the oven and it would be another 3 hours. The place is really far from my home, so I opted to pick the car up Thursday morning. Normally they open at 8:00; however someone was supposed to be there at 7:15 so that I could be to work by 8:00.

I got there this morning to pick up the car. The office doors were locked so I had to go around through the garage to find someone to help me. I whipped out my credit card expecting to pay $250 + tax for the 2 wheel refinishes as I was quoted $125/wheel + tax when they looked at the car a few days earlier. They handed my a bill for over $400 claiming that these were special finish wheels at $185.00 + tax. I had to wait until 8:00 for the office manager to arrive so I could argue my case. She was rude and gave me the run around claiming the paint was $1000/gallon. After some heated debate she finally gave me the wheels for the quoted price but said that she would not provide a warranty for the paint.

I was running late for work and didn't have much time to inspect the wheels, but they seemed fine except for the scratches from the lug wrench where they put them back on. They even left the chrome valve stem covers off. I had to ask for them back before I left. When I pointed out the scratches, she said they would not repaint them. The wheels do look better without the curb rash although I am disappointed with their customer service tactics and lack of attention for detail. I'm going to write a report and submit to the BBB and cc it to the owner and Sewell Infiniti as they also use them.

Lessons learned:
1) Don't hit a curb in the first place but if you do,
2) Don't use Wheel Technologies in Dallas
3) Make sure you get a price quote in writing before any work is done;
4) Make sure they understand you will not accept the car back with scratches from the lug wrench.
5) Make sure you leave with a copy of the warranty. (If anything happens to the paint on my wheels and they refuse to fix it; I will take them to court.) [boxing]

Sorry to hear about the bad customer service. How about some before/after pics? Is the paint atleast the same color as stock?

I'm getting the car washed after work so I can tell more about it; however, i can't tell any differnce in color. I would have liked to done a side by side comparison while the wheels were off since both passenger side wheels were repainted. I'd post some pics but you would really think you were looking at stock wheels.

On second thought, maybe it's a good idea I couldn't do a side by side. At least I have some satisfaction in thinking they match. I don't need any more reason to kick myslef over bumping that curb.

The scratches aren't that bad, but it's obvious the wheels were removed. If they would have covered the lug wrench with a rubber sleve that would have never happend. Customer service and attention to detail are so valuable!

Hey BigD

Maybe they will take care of you if you give them a chance? I would call the president listed on the info at the link below. Just try and be civil (that's always my problem when I am mad...I want to get midevil) and state your case. Make sure you document everything as well. Were you supposed to get a warranty?

Like I've said, Wheels of America did an awesome job for me. That is unconscionable that a shop doing wheel repair scratches your rims with the air lug wrench. A local shop by me did that to a couple of my rims when I got the tires rotated. Thankfully though, Wheels of America came through and fixed the damage so it is undetectable.

How cute - your doggy found your favorite toy. Make sure you get that nice and clean before you use it next.
