I live in Columbus, Ohio and have narrowed my list of 25 cars down to Audi A4, Acura RXS-S, Mazda RX8 and the G35 Sports Coupe 6MT Leather...I got the loan approved by my credit union...but I am afraid of paying too much...I have always bought used and I try to talk people down about 10 grand...I want to find some websites or talk to people about how much I should be paying for this car because I don't know about new car negotiation...34 years old, and it is time for a new car.
Thanks! I think I just sold my car last night for 2K after checking trade in and private party values on KBB...which is a good deal for both of us and I don't have to hand it over until I decide on my new one...which is looking like the 6MT...though I can't get over the suicide doors on the RX8, the cheap price of the RSX-S, the convertible A4...it seems the 6MT is just the most likely to make me feel like absolute royalty and sporty and wanting to drive...
To give you an idea of what kind of discount you can expect, check www.edmunds.com. That site is really good for giving you a ball-park figure on where you should be negotiating.
I ordered/bought mine from Sam Swope Infiniti in Louisville, KY. I suggest you give them a try as well. Call and ask for Ceceilia Mann and tell her Mike from Dayton, OH sent you. They might be able to help you out! Good luck!

I tested the Audi A4 when I was looking, tried the A4 1.8T Quattro manual and was pretty unimpressed. It drove decently, felt fairly stable, but it just never was exciting or inspiring. In stock form, the 1.8T is barely adequate in my opinion, and the car feels pretty heavy.
The RSX is fairly inexpensive and a pretty good deal at 22k-ish. Although it's a completely different class from the G35, it is a good car and you wouldn't go wrong getting one. Of course, it doesn't handle, accelerate, brake, or drive as well as the G35. For $10k less, tho, you can fairly expect not to compete.
The RX8 is a pretty car, and from a driving standpoint it's tough to beat. It's also a match for handling and power of the G, but it doesn't stop as quickly (marginally). I think the G's finish, dealer support and quality are the advantages here, Mazda never really impressed me with it's fit and finish nor it's support.
These are all good cars, tho, and I looked at each one as well. The only one I tested was the A4, however, so YMMV.
When it comes to pricing, make sure you check to see if the company you work for is a member of VPP, you can get a much better deal with no negotiation this way. VPP will give you invoice minus 1.65%, plus options, for a G35.

All I gotta say is that you'll get more potietang with getting the G. It hasn't worked for me yet cuz I'm asian and stuck in the south because of the damn Air Force
I test drove the RX-8 and was pretty unimpressed. The rotary sounds nice, to be sure, but it takes forever to get any power. Other people like it, though, so don't take my word for it.

Lovechild - My dealer would honor VPP for the Coupe, so make sure yours will honor it. I'm in Indiana (Fort Wayne to be specific) and I got mine for ~34.5k. Considering no VPP and the Fact that I really like the G I think I got a good deal (plus they gave me a good trade on my Frountier!).
I too looked at the the RX-8 and the RSX, both nice cars but I liked the G better. I keep thining that the RX-8 is to tall. The need to remove about two inches off the bottom then lower it.
Good luck shopping, hope to see pictures of your new G35 when you've made your purchase.

Susan - for some reference if you buy new: I bot 2 new 6mt sedans from Infiniti of Columbus in Dublin, an '03.5 and an '04, each at $200 over invoice thru Jeremy Rigas, Internet Sales Mgr. Professional, no pain email transactions each time. Not sure how much he would discount a new '04 6mt coupe, but I do recall him saying there didn't seem to be the same demand for 6mt's in that area as compared to national trends so they might be willing to deal if they have been sitting on inventory. If you go used, I have no clue, sorry. G/L

I'm impressed that you got a G in Indiana. They must have the worst roads ever. Just moved from South Bend after school and am glad to be in So-Cal.
To the original poster, you can probably get $2 off MSRP in your area. In California, you will get lucky to get $500 off. Have you looked at the Acura-TL, also a very nice automobile.

Acura-TL? I still don't understand why ppl put the TL in the same league as the G35. Sure they're in similar price ranges, but so are apples and oranges.
Well, Indiana is not my state of choice, but we have a nice multi-million project on I-69 going on in F. Wayne. My wife and I are looking to go to N. Cal after she finishes her MBA.

Because that was certainly not my experience with regard to 6mt sedans or coupes from the dealer I mentioned. I was offered more than $500 off MSRP on a new 6mt coupe sitting in the showroom when I picked up my first sedan (was wondering aloud whether I shoulda got the coupe). That is when they said they were having a harder time moving them than the 5at's. Now I don't know about that particular dealer today, but I have heard of several even better coupe deals from similar smaller, non-metropolitan area servicing dealers. Seems they often want to earn your biz, whereas the big city boys can simply say "take it or leave it" because they have a much larger target market to pull from and it's not like there's an Infiniti dealer around every corner. But then, the same might be used to your advantage at times.
