I've bought a G35 coupe 2003 recently. Very happy. However, I've found on the trunk (next of Infiniti Logo and other spots at the back of the car) some type of orange stuff. Looks like rust. I've cleaned + waxed. And it comes back with time (2-4 days)... I'm worry about the quality of the paint job... Worst, I saw the same thing on 2 other G35 coupe (2 out of 2) - I live in Montreal -. You have to look carefully to see those orange stuff. I've brought her to the dealer... One said that it might comes from brake dust from the train who transported the car... Can anyone reassure me ? Or, maybe it's a general problem... Hope not.
Also, I found her pretty noisy since I've put my slicks. The dealer found out that the tires are not worning out properly... meaning that the aligment is not correct. Which is causing the noise. Since I bought her used, I'll check with my dealer if the alignment was done by the previous owner.
Did anyone have that same symptoms ? Since I've heard that the Z had some problem (tires are wearing out quickly) with bad alignment (recall campaign by Nissan)... The G is build on the same platform...
I haven't heard a lot of complaints about tire wear on the G35, but I have heard a few people talk about their G pulling slightly to the right.
The orange stuff is on top of the paint? That sounds weird. I'm pretty sure that all of our cars have been on a train at one time or another, and I've never heard about this. Hopefully someone else knows what it is because I have no idea.

I noticed that I have spots on the back of my car that look like rust. [V] I saw this within the first week of getting my car. I was wondering if anyone else is having a problem with this? If so....what did you do about it?

I'm with Hot Foot...you should remove your emblems and take a closer look. If it is rust U wanna take care of it as quick as u can and right at the problem. Before something bad happens. Good luck...!!!
Norinn get it detailed by a professional. After they clay it, these guys should be able to tell you if the clay is picking up rust or dirt.
I am a bit confused, you said you are running slicks? What kind of tire are you running (model and size)?
Yes improper alignment will cause premature wear of the tires. How long have you been running the new tires before you started to notice the uneven wearing?
GZire ... I wouldn't expect a response ... this topic started back in May and that was Norinn's first and only post it appears. I was about to ask about the slicks then realized they'll never reply. Slicks in Canada ... imagine if you waited too long to take them off after summer ... [shake]
Duuh, didn't even look at the original posting date.[dunce]
Well norinn has either;
1. Taken himself out of the gene pool by running slicks on the road.
2. Figured out that it was actually dirt.
Heather - ignore everything above because we really only wanted to help you.[]
Seriously, I would still have you car detailed by a reputable professional or take it to a reputable paint shop. Either one of these should be able to give you a well informed opinion.
If it's rust we are 100% with you on a class action suit to get us some decent paint.
Okay....I guess I will be heading to a body shop tomorrow to get their opinion. Maybe I should go to a couple of them before I head to the dealership. Hopefully it's not rust......but I have a feeling it is....I don't know what else it could be.
I do have another question about the emblems. How are they normally put on? Are they put on at the plant or at the dealership? I guess I just figured they were all put on the same way.
Thanks,Heather

I have no clue where they're put on ... I assume at the factory but no reasoning behind that thought. What has the rust on it? The emblems or the trunk? For rust to appear don't you need exposed metal ... i was under the impresssion that rust is oxidized metal ... for this I would assume the clearcoat and the paint would have to be stripped. The emblems I believe are plastic pieces and thus wouldn't rust.
I would think the emblems are put on at the factory.
The emblems are plastic, but the chrome coating is metal. So the chrome coating could be rusting.
I think what norinn's dealer was getting at was the rail dust actually may have penetrated the paint. The little shards of metal may have poked little holes through the paint. That would be enough to expose the body to allow oxidation (rusting) to occur.
On the upside Heather, if it is rust you could make the dealer repaint your car (with good paint this time). Do not allow them to sell you on a cathodic protection system, make them repaint the car.[boxing]
The rust(I assume) is on the trunks back side. I went and looked at it and it looks as if there may be a couple of nicks...very tiny that are rusted. Then there are also orange spots all over. Ugh....I dread having to take care of this. I just want to drive, have fun and have no problems.
Thanks for the help!

Bizz, I thought the coupe's rear trunk symbol didn't have the holes. Seen a couple here and I didn't see any holes (they could have had bodywork those cover those up). Paint looked really clean so I didn't think it was a total repaint or a blend job.
Heather, it really is starting to sound like rust from the rail transport. Some of what can cause this is the actual rail itself. When the railcars slow down sometimes the rails can get eaten into and throw some of this material into the air and onto your car.
Again - if it is rust you can probably get the dealer to repaint the entire car. You won't have to worry about the crappy factory paint.
