Don't listen to him Louiz. The G35 is still new, so it's pretty hard to have an opinion about it's durability. I can tell you two things. One, I have had my coupe since July 03, and the only thing wrong with it is the squeeky breaks, which the dealer will replace for free. Two, I know a girl who had an older Infiniti and she told me that her car was very durable and reliable.
I have never owned a BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus so I don't really know where the G stands when placed next to them.

simply because the G35 is new and nobody knows anything about it regarding its stability and durability. It hasnt been out long enough for users to see the true value of the car in the long run.
Infiniti will have to prove to me the value of the car in the long run, and lets not forget, at the end of the day, its always a simple nissan.
I just came from a Lexus IS300, which is about the same price range as the G35. Keep in mind I've only had my G for a couple of weeks now. It's hard to compare, as these are two totally different cars. Even though the IS300 is an entry level Lexus, the interior did have a more "refined" build quality. Very little squeaks and rattles even at 30K miles. My G has lots of squeaks and rattles, new. Just turn up the volume, I suppose. Perhaps it will be improved in the next model year. All I can say is that my friend has had his G20 for years and it's been low maintenance and another friend swears at this bimmer every couple of weeks. In the long run, I suspect the the G35 will hold up well.
congrats on the G, what is sqeaking and rattling because i've never had a single thing rattle in my car besides those seatbelt holders....there are a bunch of forums about stuff sqeaking if its worth it to you to find out but thats definitely not a problem with all of them...good luck with your G
Generally speaking, Infiniti come in a distant 3rd with Lexus and Acura. Infiniti is beginning to turn this around with the introduction of the G35.
Bimmers are wonderful cars to drive; but not to own. My upstairs neighbor has a '99 M3 which, even though still under warranty, he spends $1,000 each time he takes it in. Problems that always seem to fall outside the warranty. He will never own another Bimmer, he says.
My father had a 740IL in which the engine blew 2 months after the warranty expired. Rebuild cost was in the tens of thousands. So go figure why he bought another one.
Needless to say I'd only own a Bimmer if I had another more reliable car, and plenty of patience and pocket change.
The typical European automobile owner sees Lexus, Acura, Infiniti as a Rich Mans Toyota/Honda/Nissan. An ES330 is a Camry, A TL is an Accord, an I35 is a Maxima, etc. But this is how these 3 Japanese manufacturers can produce such a quality car for a competitive price.
With that said, sit in your G35, then sit in an A4 or 330i. You'll see how crappy the interior is in the G35. But they had so save a couple bucks somehwere. But really, how much would better trim cost? $50?
Good analysis, elvis. I agree with almost everything, but I think trim is much more expensive than you think. Have you taken apart your dash? In a lux car, there are many layers of plastic, metal, foam, etc. and they are held on with many more fixtures. Plus there are much lower tolerances for errors in fit and finish. When parts are manufactured to tighter specs, the price goes up exponentially.

Thanks. I've addressed most of the squeaks at the dealer with the TSBs. One in the right rear pillar, sunroof, and rearview mirror. Odd that some of the TSBs for the '03 model work for the '04. There was one more annoying squeak coming from my passenger side vents. I've used some 3M wet spray on these. I only wish these were addressed before the time of sale, but I'm a pretty happy camper now.
I just past 1200 miles a few days ago, so I'm pushing it a little and getting use to the driving dynamics. All in all I'm very satisfied. Getting a pop charger and z-tube on Wed. I think I'll be getting a Borla exhaust next with my tax refund.

Having driven many different sports cars in the past, I must admit that this car (although just a luxury sports coupe) has some amazing characteristics when it comes to the driving dynamics. Every day I learn a little more about the cars limits etc. However, if I may suggest the best way to put a big dent in the learning curve for this car is to take the VDC off and tool around in an empty parking lot for about an hour. Also, I would recommend driving with VDC off when it is dry out, so you can notice just how easy the rear end can be to kick out. It is always safe to know exactly what your car CAN and CAN'T do in case some sort of emergency should ever arise.
Yeah, I kicked my rear end out a little too hard around a tight curve one time. It scared the crap out of me, but I kept it on the road. Drifting is not as easy as it looks lol.

the majority of the public if given the chance, would still buy a M3,CLK55 AMG, Lexus Sc430, and not a G35 if that is your intended message.
