Default DEEP rock chip on windshield.. HELP Please..

Hi,

I just got this rock chip on my front glass (windshield) and it's pretty deep.. I think it cracked a little bit.. what should I do? Does the warranty covers this? If I let the dealer install a new windshield on my coupe, I'm afraid that the dealer won't intall it properly and i'll be getting new problems.. such as.. wind coming in when driving..
Any suggestions or advice?

No warranty doesn't cover it. Call Safe-T-Lite and have them look at it. Depending on how deep it is and how much cracking you have, the might be able to repair it for $50-$75. The insurance will pay for the $50 - $65 and if it needs to be replaced, they will cover that as well. I have one in mine as well. It looks like a bullet hole. It's below the wiper on the passenger side. It happened when the car was a month old. I have done nothing yet because the car was garaged most of the winter. I too, will do the same thing.

Do you know the contact phone number for Safe-T-Lite? The rock chip on my front glass is not very big.. but it's pretty deep.. I think it cracked between the outer later and the innner layer of the glass.. coz I see this black line inside.. and it's really annoying.. coz it's right in front of my eyes while i'm driving.. Maybe any glass company can do what they do. They inject resin into the crack and use pressure to fill it. I have had it done a number of times. Beware of extreme heat or cold for now though so it doesn't spread. Mine is the same way. It's about as big as a quarter but you can barely feel it on the surface. I have to have it done as well.

In most states the front windshield is considered safety glass and will be replaced for free. I would call you insurance provider and check into this. Also, most places will replace your glass while you are at work, just tell them the car and they will be out there within a day or two. Goodluck and let us know how it pans out.

why do you want to call your insurance company for such a small claim?
Some one hit my G on Friday night and he disappeared. I'm going to pay for fixing it because it's not worth it to call the insurance comapany.

I would recommend against replacing it if possible, unless it is a
safety issue. A replaced windshield will never be the same as the
original, even if you use OEM glass. The seals will never look as
good and the corners may not fit in perfectly. I had my windshield
replaced by dealer on my BMW. Although it did not leak (water)
even in a rainstorm, I could hear a clear whistle whenever the
speed exceeded 80 mph, or when the wind is blowing in the right
direction. BTW, the dealer actually just called in one of those
mobile glass specialists to have the windshield replaced, and they
charged me twice as much!

Who is your insurance provider?? Have you called them?

I'm with Geico... and rock chips like this are FREE. If they have to replace the winshield, you simply pay your deductable.

I'll see you on the track...

Call your provider and ask what the penalty to your policy will be if you file a claim. Talking to them doesn't affect your policy at all.

I always keep full glass coverage on all my cars , this pays in the long run. I ride the L.I.E every day and rock chips are a fact of life. On my 99 accord , my daily driver , my windshield has been replaced three times ! My premium has never gone up as a result of this. I never had a problem with installation it always came as good as new. You may have a problem if the repair is in your line of sight though.
