Default Engine swap

So I may need a new engine for my 2005 g35 coupe 6mt. I'll find out tomorrow after they look the car over more. He quoted me 6k. 4.8 for the motor and Rest in labor. Is there any other engine that will be an upgrade and not much more in price for my car?

That seems a lot of money for a used motor.

Make sure he gets a motor from a 05-07 6MT unless he is going to only use the block..

there is no cheap upgrade for a motor.

that does sound high for a used motor with a questionable OC history.

you can find a VQ for ur car for less than 3k bro. and the swap isnt that difficult if you take your time and have patience. even if its your first one. and if your not comfortable you could find someone to swap them for around 600 tops. tell that guy to eff off

What VQ motor would be an upgrade over stock. My uncle and I may end up doing it together. He has done swaps before.

I have heard of some people swapping the Titan engine...not sure of the engine code though. There have been a few people dropping in one of the LS series v8's but that requires a ton of fabrications work. Don't forget - if you are installing a different engine then you will most likely need different mounts, wiring harness, and such...possibly some space issues as well. It's not as simple as an even trade.

What's the issue with your current engine? If it's just the short block, you can buy an upgraded one or possibly even a long block that has been stroked for slightly more than what that guy is asking.

The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits...

6K for a used engine?

I just paid $7400 and change for a ported and polished, blue-printed and balanced engine with race bearings installed into my car about 8 months ago. It was done by Stillen, and they are not a cheap shop by any means.

So if I can have a very well built engine with some nice tweaks installed by an expert shop for $7400, just think about how much you're paying for an engine that could have had the tits driven off of it for all you know.

for the money it's probably the best bang-for-the-buck.

one would think the HR would be easy but making dual throttle bodies work might be a pain. and how many other little tweaks to make it talk to a DE ECU. or to make an HR ECU talk to the DE car.

Even if you do throw the money at it, you're up only about 30 hp.

I'd get a low mileage VQ35DE Revup motor from an 05-07 G35 or 05-06 350Z with a manual tranny. If possible, run the VIN thru Infiniti Consumer Services and make sure it's not a replacement motor with an oil consumption issue.

I had my motor swapped last year, I wish I could have done an LS engine swap or something else, but my pops wouldn't let me do it

(I live in a condo, with a below ground parking garage, so I needed his house to do it).

Ended up paying a mechanic 3k - got a used '05 engine with no oil consumption issues that only had 45k on it w/ a 1 year warranty.

I shopped around a lot though, if a mechanic quoted me a price, I told them I found somewhere cheaper and next thing you know they are calling me back with a lower price.

Not sure where you live but I had the work done by Asian Imports in Beltsville, MD - he did everything using his contacts, ordered the engine, had it delivered, and had it installed for me in a day.

That being said, if you have the time, knowledge, and ability - Doing it yourself could be a fun project. LS engine would be awesome, but as mentioned before, needs custom work, and you'll probably be out of a car for months.

I do have to get a new motor. I found a 05 with 41k miles. What's a list of performance upgrades that would not add to much price to the motor install I could do. List of lower cost and higher cost would be nice... I'm new to motors so not to sure what can be done.

This car has been the biggest pos. Clutch went out 1 month after buying it and I replaced that now the motor has went out. I paid 18k for put 1.4k in the clutch and now I'm about to put 5.5k to 6.5k in a new motor. I still owe 10k on it. Ive had this car 6 months. Fml... Should have know with all the miles the last owner put on it in just one year.
