Default How many miles in between an oil chage?

I have a 2006 Infiniti G35 6MT. Just wondering how many miles I should go in between oil changes and what kind of oil is required. Thanks guys.

I use Mobil1 synthetic every 6000. I've heard everywhere from 3500 to 10000 on synthetic. Mostly up to you and your driving habits.

Schedule 2 in the maintenance manual suggests 7500 miles. I change every 5000 miles or so with synthetic.

5W-30 is what's specified. Just use general common sense:

On regular oil, no more than 5000 miles max.

On synthetic, no more than 10,000.

< 3k synthetic...if you can feel a difference when you change your oil, you might be waiting a little too long IMO

There's a ton of debate around this so I would say it's really up to you and your own opinion.

Some people use dino and argue it has certain characteristics better than synthetic.

Recommended manufacturer oil is 5w-30. Some people adjust the weight depending on climate and like ldg said - your driving habits.

Synthetic manufacturers claim you can go up to 25k, although I wouldn't recommend it.

IMO <3k on synthetic is way too soon. I love the feeling of new oil as well, but this in reality is probably psychological. Your killing the environment and your wallet

I change every 10k with synthetic just because it makes the numbers easy, I see 50k, 60k, 70k, etc. (although I had a blown motor lol - had nothing to do with oil changes tho ).

Oil changing is not rocket science. How hard you drive, type of gas, other maint,- can determine how "dirty" and broken down your oil viscosity becomes, per mile. So if you look and your oil after a change, and feel it, you can guess when maybe you should start changing it in the future. Unless your cheap/dont care/maybe have money to replace the engine sooner than would have been necessary had you not waited as long inbetween changes. Also, contrary to popular belief I that synthetic should not extend the time between changes. Yes it is "better", and possibly breaks down harder, but none the less it can get disgusting just the same in 3-5k...10k is murder...dont know how you sleep at night

-directed at the environmentalist, worried about the oil consumption back into the earth...maybe you should trade in your gas guzzling G for a prius...you sound like a vegetarian, who only eats chicken. Just being a member here is contadictory, of your tree hugger statement. I might go to Afghan and slay a few bodies from time to time, but your committing a 1st degree murder on an Infinity w your 10k oil changes...no sh!t

i actually do own a prius. it's a 2005, it runs great.

jninja - you are a pretty angry dude. i've seen some of your other posts and you pretty much go ballistic on everyone who contradicts what you say. it's a forum... stated opinions.

i've done my fair share of research on oil, talked with experts, read tons of blogs, etc. synthetic is resistant to breaking down compared to dino.

look at any full synthetic, they all claim to run 15-25k. i'm not suggesting to do that, just saying that's what the manufacturer says you can do. you can void your warranty if you do that, because infiniti won't allow it.

there are arguments to using dino oil suggesting it is a better lubricant. a while ago on this forum this debate came back, and some experts suggested using it to battle the oil consumption issue. most dino oils also claim to run 7500. again, from the manufacturer, not suggesting to do that.

i sleep fine. i might even take a nap now. and since oil is used in aircrafts, space craft, and any other machine needing lubrication - i'd say it is rocket science.
