Default A/C problem....

Here's the problem.... A/C turns on and all but is not cold....actually kinda warm. Checked the low pressure port with a gauge and got a reading of a little over 100psi....which seems extremely high. I can hear something click on when I turn a/c on...fan or relay or whatever. Any ideas before I go and get raped at th shop?

Did you check the little temp sensor that plugs in under the steering wheel behind the cover? I had mine unplug and it did something similar

^^ that's a good point.

The AC compressor also may not be coming on.

Make sure both fans are actually turning on.

There;s a warranty extention for 04-07 fan motors. 96 months/100k miles.

^^^ that wouldn't stop the ac from working, they just keep the car from over heating.

can you see if the compressor clutch is engaged?

Ok, I believe I found the clutch/compressor. I can see the pully is engaging and then disengaging every couple minutes. When it engages, pressure drops down to 45-55psi but when is disengages...pressure shoots up to 100 psi. Car is running and a/c is cranked during this whole process.

You need to remove the dash panel that runs under the steering wheel before you hit the pedals. The sensor should be on the right side of the panel roughl positioned 6-8" or so under the ignition.

I just noticed that neither of my fans are kicking on. I push them with my hands a little bit and can feel them try. Could the compressor be over heating and kicking itself off to protect it?

that might be the reason.

It seems your compressor is working. That's a good sign.

fans should have no effect on the ac system. they are there to cool the engine (coolant). I don't think there is any safety interlock that if the fans aren't running then the ac won't work. besides you said you saw the compressor clutch functioning and that the pressures were changing, indicating it's doing something.

I wonder if whatever does the air mixing is not acting right? your ac system could be doing everything right but the crap at your heater core could be reheating the air even though the temp is set to cold.

can you get to the evaporator and see if it's cold?

not sure if you can get to the lines on the engine side. may have to dig into it from the cabin side.

The fans DO have an effect on air blowing in. Both fan motors in my 07 went bad last summer. The AC system worked, but the air blowing in the cabin was hot... unless i was at highway speeds, where the forced air into the engine bay made up for lack of air circulation from the fans.

Temp gauge went to H several times and the coolant finally boiled over (literally) out of the reservoir tank. Thank god that's the worst it got. Dealer found both fan motors out of electrical spec and replaced them free of charge next day. Everything works as normal now.
