Default revup vs non-revup

This may be a stupid question but what's the difference between rev-up and non-rev up? And how can you tell what motor you have? Is it based on years or something? Anyway, reason for asking is I found a non-revup longblock for sale out of an 06....guy only wants 600 bucks for it so i'm thinking potentially its a good deal to buy and build that motor that way I can just do it myself and not have to worry about not having a car to drive while the motors out.

no offense but you need to do some searching, this has been covered repeatedly.

but to be at least a little bit helpful, the rev-up's only came in the 05+ 6MT coupes and sedans. so if the longblock you are looking at is an 06 it is from an automatic.

rev ups i believe began in the 05 coupes??? may not wanna quote that....but the main difference that is well...noticeable is that the rev limiter has been moved up to 8K to allow the motor to push to 298 fly wheel horsepower...mainly in manuals i believe tho....

yea you need to do some searching too.

yes the revups started in 05

the redline is 7k and the rev limiter is only 7500...I've seen it...

also the 298hp is rated @ 6400 rpm, not way out at 8k.

it was ONLY available in the manuals

The revups also have less torque than the non-revups and generally have oil consumption issues more than non-revups.

The revups have variable exhaust valve timing whereas the non-revups do not.

So I also was trying to decide which year I should buy and the rev up motor has more horsepower but less torque than a non rev up so which is better? Basically does this mean a non rev up will be faster off the line but in the end the rev up will take it?

Buy the car based on the tranny, year and miles, not the motor. It's not going to make much difference which motor it has.

Thanks for your vote. Maybe when traffic picks up here, someone will listen to you. I'm on a lot of G35 boards.

maybe i need to apologize for refraining from throwing my spec sheet at you thatguy...perhaps you know my car better than I do...seeing as the information that i provided was in fact correct...maybe not worded to your liking...but thank you for taking personal consideration into my post and my car...simply posted that from the dash it is noteable in itself that the tachometer on a rev-up pushes to 8k...

i did in fact mention to not quote me on it...was just giving general information...but seriously..thank you for being such a dick about it...i know the specs of the vehicle i purchased....

not trying to be a dick but you plainly stated the redline is 8k, it is in fact not 8k but 7k, and the rev-limiter will stop you from reaching 8k since it cuts in at 7500. Also the tach on both cars indicates all the way to 8k...

I do not know your car better since you may have some sort of reflash or reprogrammer that will allow you to push out to 8k, but the OP's question was revup vs. nonrevup, not nonrevup vs. sethrroger's car.

also the part that you were questioning yourself about, I confirmed as accurate, your welcome.

Revup DE's redline = 7000. Mine cuts out at 7100.
The HR's = 7500.
