Default Why Buy Automatic?

I'm tired of all the bashing I read here on automatic equipped Coupes. I tried the 6MT option and frankly the manual transmission in these cars stinks. The linkage is too stiff, the shifter is located too low and far away from the steering wheel and the clutch is non linear.

My NSX has a manual transmission. My racecar has a manual transmission. And I CAN shift gears manually in my G35 Coupe if I decide I'd like to do this using the manu-matic function of the AT. So why do I need a clutch pedal to navigate modern gridlock on the way to work?

This was a good discussion about MT vs. AT

I suggest you simply lighten up. I rarely see anyone but me bagging on automatics and I do it entirely in jest.

No you can't. You can ask the torque converter to change the gearing ratio for you but you distinctly can not shift gears manually.

No auto lag or power drop across the torque converter?

The feel of the engine and split second control of the power output?

Because it's fun?

Those are some of my reasons for needing a manual, but obviously it's a matter of personal taste. Perhaps those don't apply to you.

Enjoy steering your car.

To each his own- but the short throws (compared to my prior BMW) make this stick really responsive. And remember, with manu-matic or any kind of auto-stick- the computer still has ultimate control of the shift. With stick and clutch, I have ultimate control.

Exactly. For a control freak like me, being the undisputed ruler is kind of sexy.

I've got the timing down on my 5at. I can make it shift right when I want it to.
I wonder if there ever going to come out with a chip or whatever that'll make it shift immediately. I'm thinking about getting aftermarket intake just to make the throttle response better.

Stuck his right arm up in a hollow tree underwater and a freshwater croc took it clean off above the elbow.

That's about the only reason I can come up with.
