Default Another rim thread

So I need tires and I am looking to buy some gently used rims w/ tires instead. I really want 20s but the price of 19s are more in my desired budget. As my car has 19s stock, I have always thought that when people replace thier stock rims with aftermarket ones of equal size, but with lower profile tires, it ends up looking as if they have went down a size on rims. Anyway, my question is about widths and offsets. What should I be looking for? I want a good sized lip and I'm wondering how wide is too wide. I am looking at a set of vsxx on driver that were 11" wide in back and 9.5" in front. seems excessively wide to me am I right?

I was also looking at some GT-C 19s as a back up that are 8.5 in from and 9.5 in back, which seems slim? any thoughts on what I should look for? And is 'offset' what determines how wide the lip is?

9.5 wide up front works, but you have to be really careful with anything wider than 10 in the rear, especially an 11. Wider than a 10 in back and you will likely have to roll your rear fenders, depending on how aggressive the offset is. You will definitely have to roll your fenders with an 11 in the rear AND you will have to be converned about them sticking out too far or scrubbing the rear suspension if the offset isn't right. You will also probably have to run an aggressive camber in the rear with an 11, which = more money for tires thatwill wear out faster.

I think a 9 or 9.5 in front and a 10.5 in the rear is a great combination, depending on the offsets. Mine are 20x9 +26 and 20x10.5 +29, which is fairly conservative, but I think it works well with my car.

rolling your fenders what? regardless it seems like something I don't want to do.. so I should look for 9 or 9.9 front and 10 in the rear for 20's if I don't want to fool with the fenders? I'm getting the wheels strictly for aesthetics so I'm not worried about performance factors so much. And how do I know the proper offset to order with each wheel to get a sizable lip and not worry about the wheel sticking out too far?

The best way to tell what offsets you need are to look at other Gs with the wheels you like and see how they look and find out the offsets. Some companies only make certain offsets for the Gs and Zs, so if you go with one of those companies that has a lot of experience with the Gs and Zs, then you are likely to get the right offset to work. For example, my rims were only offered in one width and offset.

Another way to make sure you get wheels with the right offsets is to use a seller that knows a lot about Gs and Zs and wheels. I went with F1 Motorsport because of their knowledge and ability to get the wheels I wanted.
You can call chris at F1.

Rolling the fenders is pretty easy with a rubber mallot, a heat gun, and about 30 minutes.

I think sandman is a little confused about offset. You can have varying offset values and have the same amount of lip.

"Wheel Offset" from wiki:
The offset, measured in millimeters, can be negative or positive, and is the distance from the hub-mounting surface to the rim's true centerline. A positive offset means the hub-mounting surface is closer to the outside edge of the wheel, i.e. the wheel wraps around the hub and brake hardware more deeply; a negative offset means the hub-mounting surface is closer to the inside edge of the wheel and wheel sticks outwards more than inwards. When selecting aftermarket wheels, a wheel with too little positive offset will be closer to the fender, and one with too much positive offset will be closer to the suspension components. Wheel width, offset and tire size all determine whether a particular wheel/tire combination will work on a given car...

Play around with this calculator and you will see the interaction between rim width, offset, and tires. Wheel / tire size calculator / comparer - RIMS-N-TIRES
