imnot looking for speed in this project, im looking for the experience lol this is my first car and yeah i was planning to trade it in for a bmw 335xi coupe stick but after careful consideration i do love my car. the only thing i dont like it the AT tranny so if i can swap it for anything less than 6 Gs i would say its worth it... (considering i almost lost 20Gs by selling this car ) but yeah im not lookin forward to performance upgrades jus the experience of driving a stick
are you guys all insane? you will be lucky to get it all done for 5k, then you still have to swap the gauge cluster unless you want to keep the AT cluster which will likely display some type of error message on the gear indicator. why not just trade the car in on a 6MT. 6MT's almost always have more goodies than 5AT's anyhow (brembos if it's an 03/04). surely you will be able to find a comparable 6MT for less than a $5k difference, put that money into the car and you'll be way ahead of where you would be with the tranny swap.

Computer systems and wiring harnesses are just a couple of things that are different between 6MTs and 5ATs. It would probably be cheaper to sell your 5AT and get a 6MT plus you wouldn't have any weird little issues like SES lights coming on and no warranty like if you do a tranny swap.

You would be much better off buying a 6MT than converting your car. I'm not sure what year you have but if you got a 03 or 04 6MT you'd have Brembos too.
Yeah, pretty much agree with what most here are saying (already answered in your other post). Sell it and buy a stick.....you'll definitely be glad you did. If you are claiming the reason is the depreciation that has hit your car, then wouldn't that SAME depreciation(or close to it) have hit other (manual) cars that you'd be buying???
i mean ive thought about trading my car in but, ive put a double din conversion navi in, auto starter, clearance strip bulbs, alot of things that require alot of work to take out... plus wouldnt it be hard to find an exact car (color package)
but trading it in sounds good too but if i am not able to take out the auto starter and navi then that would b a loss wouldnt it?
there's no good argument to swapping from AT to MT on a late model car. it's different when you are talking early 90's 240sx or something where the parts are cheap and the vehicle is easier to work on. i dont even want to imagine what kind of hell that thing would give you as time goes on.
