Have you driven the 6MT yet? (IMO, it's so much more fun to drive). Before considering doing a swap, I'd make sure you're comfortable with its quirks, and stuff. If you have a friend who has a G35 6MT, maybe borrow it for a few hours.

What are you going to do if you swap trannies and then decide to sell a car that has a 6MT but came from the factory with a 5AT. Don't you think no one will want that car?

It's not too difficult to remove the DD radio and return the car to stock.

so anyways, dont make a hasty decision. take your time, add up costs and the cost of potential problems down the road and i think the answer is clear.

What are you talking about? You'd rather keep the G over getting a 335XI coupe?

You're obviously smokin' crack!

+1 to everybody else- too big of a pain in the ass to switch out a transmission!

AUTOS SUCK!

Post pics of 335 when you get it!

Don't swap it, you can probably sell it private party for the same or close to the same price you can buy a 6mt with similar milage for. Put your car up on autotrader or something and see what happens, you may get lucky.

What you're wanting to do is somewhat analogous to a sex change in a human. Is it possible? Sure. Is it something you'd want to do? Well... that's a very complicated question better left to Neft...

Plus, just like a sex change op it's a very extensive and complicated procedure, which could go wrong at any point and leave you a shim for life. Then there's the fact that after a girl or guy has a sex change would you want to play with them? It's better to leave that to the birds and get yourself a new car.

Or you can do what Neft does and pretend to drive a stick by quickly lifting off the gas and jerking your head fowards every time you drive. He tells us that he get's a similar feeling as driving a stick on good nights when there's a full moon.

yeah i agree now swapping idea was retarded but... when the idea was presented to me that was a dream come true haha.... i didnt know the negative side iw as jus thining MY CAR a 6MT and it got me.

and no i doubt ill be getting the 335xi though. i jus got this car in 05. it would really be a waste of money. i dont want a new car i just wished my car was a stick.

i guess the best alternative is to find a private party and sell it there. but the downside to that is the fact that i will be trading a Brand new vehicle for a used vehicle. i dont think thats a smart idea. (would it be hard to find a athens blue 6MT cuz i love my color and package)

its not a retarded idea. when i had my old accord i wished i could have swapped out the transmissions.

i dont get what you are saying. you said you just got your G in 05 but then you say something about trading a brand new car for a used one?? your G isnt brand new so why couldnt you sell it and get another one? or just sell it and get the 335?

How much do you owe on your car, and what's the BB value? Sell it privately on autotrader.com or something - I just did a quick search for 6MT's in NYC. There's plenty out there. Maybe you can find one that you want, it doesn't hurt to look. I think it'll be worth the effort. Good luck.

Your "real-world" options.

1. Find a good wall and gun it. Insurance should be tested now and then.

2. Drive it to our friendly neighbors to the south. Park it and take a taxi back. Again, insurance should be tested to see if it really works.

Good luck.
