How helpful are a y-pipe and headers on the vq motors?
i already installed:
-5/16" plenum spacer
-z tube
-k&n drop in filter
-and on friday will have the fujitsubo legalis r exhaust installed
i wanted to know if I only spent $210 on a Ichiba y-pipe, would i notice a difference? about how much hp to the wheels for $210?
I wasnt originally going to install headers, partly because of the labor price, and partly because i dont want a loud exhaust (thats why i got the fujitsubo)..........but if i were to add a decent set of headers with the y-pipe, what could i expect to see to the wheels with the both of them installed?
im looking to get 13's.......im hoping what i already have done without the y pipe and headers that im in the high 13's, but i just want to be sure, and for $210, im willing to spend it if it helps and doesnt make my exhaust too much louder.
im scared to even get the test pipes with resonator (high flow cat) cause i DO NOT want that raspy sound, or a check engine light.....
thanks

I doubt you would see 10 hp gain for the expense of headers and a y-pipe. You would see as much gain with HFC's wich are not the same as resonated test pipes.
Your Fuji exhaust doesn't come with a Y pipe?

im not sure........i was just assuming not just because they sell the y-pipe as a seperate piece, but the picture i saw looked like it was from the y-pipe back. but thinking now, if it is a catback, it very well may/should come with it.
hmmmmmmmmmm.....good point gilley, im gonna research that and find out!!
They may offer a Y pipe that is available separately. I haven't looked at the Fuji exhaust in a long time to know for certain.
i looked and looked and have come to the conclusion that fuji sells their y-pipe seperately, which sucks but brings another question.
Im trying to do everything right on my car. Like i said, i do not want rasp. I know i am going to get a y-pipe (and later hfc's), but im focused on y-pipes now.
i want to maximize power and torque but i REALLY want to have a nice exhaust note!! I know the y-pipe will help both, but i really dont want the $510 price tag on the fuji y-pipe.
so my question is, i see that g35parts.com and intensepower sell the intense power y-pipe for a fraction of the costs......and i know you pretty much get what you pay for, but they look the exact same. i know there are quality differences, but im mainly focused on sound and power (i know they will both hold up and not fall apart).
what are everyones thoughts and opinions. I dont want to be a cheap ass, but i dont want to spend $300 extra on something that will yeild the same power and sound as the cheaper one.......
save $ and get true dual exhaust for highest HP results.(stillen, injen, skunk2)
If u bought a muffler i would put the y pipe or u might not see any gain just exhaust note!
Headers not worth the $ for the gain unless FI.
im fine with the fujitsubo........im looking for a 13.9 and i think that will definately put me closer, and as long as i get my 13.9 i dont care if i have dual exhaust or not. Im more focused on a very nice note and a 13.9 but i appreciate the response!! keep them coming if you have more cause ill take any opinions can get.
I don't know if the other y-pipes will give any real increase over the OEM pipe. I hope someone with more than just speculation like me can answer.
fujitsubo claims theirs will give 5 whp, but what they say and it actually does are two different things..........thats why i was so concerned with the y-pipe. If its gonna yeild 5 whp and i can pick an equivalent to the fuji for $200 bucks, then why not ya know?
thanks for the inputs everyone, keep them coming!!
Y pipe is not worth it unless you are going with 3" piping on the mid-pipe and axleback... If you want more sound, go for it, they sound louder and meaner from the driver's seat. Power-wise, I never saw any gains or losses.

on the butt dyno or actually proven no gains or losses?
Get the Y-pipe, but pass on the headers. I have DC sports headers and bang for buck, it's minimal.
Instead get the Y-pipe plus some Cats! I have a Fuji exhaust + Y pipe + Berk Technology Cats + Headers and she sounds great!!! Not ultra loud like an HKS, but still great.
If you want to break into the 13's, I would really emphasize suspension and a new clutch!
