Default Calling all wise installers - new engine from dealership

Whats up Fellas,
long time viewer, first time poster.

My car is almost done the oil consumption tests, and the dealership is willing to change the engine. (They claim that a new engine version of the same VQ will be put in that will not consume oil, like the old one) - (maybe someone can comment on this).

Anyway since they are taking it out, they say I can change the clutch and whatever else at no labour cost.

any recommendations as to what I can / should do?

Many 350z owners, and possibly G35, have been ranting about the new V2 engine consuming oil as well. Monitor it like a hawk and let the dealership know you are doing so. Do a search on some of the other forums regarding this issue.

Default Oil Consumption

Hello......

I'm at this site because I'm considering buying a G35 Couple..
I saw this bit about "oil consumption" - is this restricted to certain model years.. OR..?

Thanks for the insights,

Doug

I think only the 6 mt model that is 2005-2007 coupe. But I dont think it is effecting all of them, just a few. But yes do your homework concerning this.
an 07 coupe 6mt with an extended warranty will be ur best bet (if you want to go manual). That is just my opinion though.

I am in the middle of that Issue they are replacing mine next week, I was thinking of Replacing the FLY Wheel but I'm worried about the Chatter. Is it worth the performance gains?

The engine in question is the RevUp motor that is in all 05-07 6MT coupes. Not all of these engines consume oil but a lot of them do. I had an 05 6MT coupe before my 06 and it never consumed oil. My 2006 6MT coupe was consuming a quart and a half of oil every 1000 miles. So after 3 oil consumption tests, I rec'd a new engine from Nissan/Infiniti. The new engine has revised pistons and piston rings and was supposedly hand built in Japan. Some of the new, revised engines are consuming oil but for the most part, they are not. Mine seems to be fine. I am supercharged so my engine does consume a bit of oil but that is to be expected with an FI'd vehicle. But it is nothing like before.

I have a 2007 6mt.. bought it last April .. i just checked my oil yesterday and i have plenty.. no signs of consumption.. the car currently has 6,500 miles on it.. i am do for an oil change in another 1k miles...

Does anybody know when g35 owners start to notice signs of consumption? does OC start happening randomly and progressively gets worse? i'm assuming there is no exact mileage when OC starts happening..

If you are showing no signs of oil consumption after 6500 miles, you should be fine.

Hey Hexxum,

How is the new engine doing? is she broken in yet?
How does it feel preformence wise??? Are you happy that they changed it, or do you wish they got it right the first time?
any other noises or issues you have with it?

New engine is good. She has been broken in. Performance wise?? Well I am pushing 400hp to the wheels so I would say the performance is good. Well, I wasn't happy that I had oil consumption issues but since I did, I'm glad they fixed the issue. At this point, there have been no further issues. *knocks on wood*
