Default OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE...I got engine replaced...new engine burns oil too...

Hi Guys,

I have a 2007 G35 Mt6.
At 7000 miles I got my engine replaced because of oil consumtion issues.

I have 2500 miles with this new engine so far. I been cheecking the oil often and today, I noticed on the dip stick that the oil is almost gone.

Has anyone gone through this with the replaced engine?

I have heard that this has happened to several people.
I even heard that some consumers got the engine replaced twice.

I would appreciate any advice you can give me dealing with Nissan again.

Thanks in advance.

I have a freind who had this same exact problem and for his 3rd engine it wasnt the same engine that you normally get.Supposedly you get a hand assembled engine with different tolerances(i have also heard this on my350z a few times).

Wow, what bad luck. You have to take it back for another OC test.

It stills seems very fishy that it is the engine, if the new engine is doing to same thing as the old one. I have somewhat limited knowledge about car engines.... I know the basics..... but it would make more sense that the issue is coming from something else in the car that is not being changed. Again, I don't know what that would be, but when you give someone a liver transplant because their first one crapped out, and the second one does the same thing, you don't blame the liver. maybe that analogy doesn't fit here, but you get my drift.

Get Osiris, and as bad as this may sound to some, retard the timing a bit. That should fix the oil consumption issue. I was losing about 4 to 4 1/2 quarts every 4k miles, and we did several compression tests on my motor and everything seemed fine. When I was looking for an ecu reflash program, the guys at Uprev broke down the problem to my friend, and mentioned this fix. I tried it out and it works great... so far. The last two oil changes had no oil consumption at all.

As for what they try to fix... although I know they put an emphasis on the piston rings, they are also listening for sounds from the valvetrain before they decide you need a new motor.

Oh man, I have a little over 200 miles on my new engine. I discussed this oil consumption test with the dealer at length. I was promised that this was a newly designed engine that will not burn oil. I have noticed that it runs cooler then the first one. We shall see. I DO NOT want to go through this again. Good luck!
