Default Help Anyone! OEM Windshield replacement

Ok so like many of you I am sure I got a crack in my windshield that grew to 8 to 10 inches. I called to replace the glass (in Florida it's free) and I asked them to replace with OEM Dealer glass and the insurance came back and said they want over $1,000 for the glass because it's stamped with Infiniti (Nissan). I spoke with the glass company and they said they can get OEM glass for $350 from the manufacturer of the original equipment, the only difference is the sticker saying Infiniti (Nissan).

My question is do I go with the OEM delaer glass or the OEM manufactuer glass and is there really any difference?

For sure I will not use Non-OEM.....

Just a thought here...I'm not exactly sure in this case which is better, but I would talk with your windshield repair shop and have them check with their supplier to see if the non-dealer glass is currently available. I had a similar problem with my insurance company on my BMW's windshield; turns out the glass was currently only available from dealers so I got the BMW glass and they paid for it.

I suspect that they are comparing costs of the 350Z OEM glass to the G35 OEM glass. If this is the case, I believe the OEM Nissan glass costs less because it doesn't have the integrated antenna that the OEM Infiniti glass has. If you opt for the cheaper glass solution, you may not get good radio reception without the antenna.

I'm a windshield replacement technician, and believe I can offer some insight to your problem.

first off the 350z and infiniti have the same glass their is NO antenna or heater wires or magical unicorn sensor.

aftermarket glass is readily available and is really no better or worse than the OEM stuff. (i have aftermarket in my car)

Things to worry about would be the skill of the shop doing the work. the glass is nothing special but what's required to replace it is a little more work than the average car takes to be replaced (the process is similar to an older ford mustang for these cars).

The outer A pillars must be removed all the way to the rear of the doors, they are secured with screws (hidden under the rubber window seal) and clips.
If the rubber window seal is not replaced correctly you will have wind whistles and your car will leak water from the side windows. (usually the upper corners)

the plastic cowling must also be removed (under the wipers.) its straight forward, just a bunch of plastic clips and a couple 10mm bolts. but some installers wont remove them in order to save time.

also after the window is removed, they WILL scratch the pinchweld area in order to cut down the old glue. this is necesary and unavoidable, however a good installer will use an approved automotive primer on the scratches in order to eliminate any rusting issues.

again, dont worry about the brand of glass, worry about the installer doing the work.
any questions PM me

-Brian
