I work with carbon fiber, quite a bit actually (hints i am an aircraft mechanic) and its safe to use a cutting wheel at a very high speed with minimal pressure so you dont have shardes or splinters of fiber flying everywhere. A high speed with minimal pressure is reccomended so the cutting wheel wont snag up on the part, if that happens there is a slight risk the part could crack depending on how many plys have been incorporated into the part. You should be fine, just take your time and do it right!
