Default Clutch problem!!

Hi All,

Recently I have been driving my 6mt during the hot weather in NYC. Few times I felt my clutch is not coming back up. This only happened when i drove it a traffic with hot weather. Once its cool off, then the clutch is fine and everything back to normal. So is my clutch getting bad? If its.. then our clutch is really fragil. I have this car about 8k miles, and I never drive it crazy (like the car is stolen) . How can this clutch go out so fast!!?? Now the car is at a dealership, they told me i need to pay a diagnostic fee for $110 before they can check on my clutch... DAME and they will tell me how much its going to cost for the repair. NOW if i do need to change the clutch.. what should i get? any advise? thanks all.

What do you mean by you felt your clutch not coming back up? Like the revs go up when you give it gas, as if the clutch is still engaged, or does the pedal itself actually not come back up? Please clarify.

Hit the clutch and engaged, trying to let go the clutch. it comes halfway up and stopped. I need to use my foot to push it up. Its like the clutch is not fully come back up, stopped in halfway.

Ok, so the pedal itself is not coming all the way back up. Does the pedal feel soft when you press down on it?

If that is the case you have a hydraulic problem or air in your clutch line if it only happens when its hot, you might be boiling your clutch fluid. That should be covered by warranty. I would check your clutch fluid reservoir, make sure its full.

Ya.. its kinda soft when i re-pressed the clutch. Hopefully dealer can tell me its hydraculic problem so no fees and covered by the warranty. I just can believe that within 8k the clutch goes bad like that.

I had same problem since 15000 miles (now i'm 38000 miles and still have problem on my clutch).
I went to several infiniti dealers but they said my clutch is weared out and need to change it. some of them didn't even take a look.
i went to local clutch shop and the guy there told me my clutch is fine and it's because of the bad cylinder. so i went to dealer again and told what i heard. they kept my car for like 3 days and changed slave cylinder and it worked!
still feel spongy but it comes back correctly. recently, it felt spongy a lot so i went to dealer they changed slave cylinder again, and now it's spongy and sticky. i don't know what to do..i like this car but i really hate this clutch.

DO NOT take it to the dealership, they are going to do a transmission tear down on you. It has nothing to do with your clutch paddle, its the oil. You have to swap out the bad fluid in the cylinder reservoir. I got mine fix by myself. Very easy to do here is a DIY.

http://www.rangeracceleration.com/Clutch_Care.html

Here is what I got:
1. Valvoline Syn Power Brake Fluid (exceed dot 3 and dot 4) - $3.85
2. Syringe for drawing fluid in the reservoir - 0.99
3. Blue paper tower - $1.29

Total $6.13.

Just follow the instructions from rangeraccelration and your clutch will feel like new again.

^^^^JTG35, thanks for that info. I was having the same problem and just changed my clutch fluid. It was a dark brown rather than clear. After the flush, I drove it for about an hour and can attest that the pedal feel is much firmer. New clutch fluid = viagra for 6MT!

I have been experiencing the same problem with my 6MT. I live in Agoura, CA. For my car, the issue isn't whether it is hot or cold outside, or whether I have been driving for a while or just started out. It only happens in first gear when I accelerate hard from a stop. When driving normally, as I release the clutch I can feel the pressure of the clutch pedal as it comes back up. When I am accelerating hard, as I release the clutch it simply stops about half way up. The clutch is fully engaged as acceleration doesn't suffer. I have explained this to the dealership and they want me to take them on a test drive to show them the problem. As I don't accelerate hard from a stop (too) often, it hasn't been worth my time to deal with the dealership.

I think you should still check your fluid. Change it if you can (follow the instructions above). It is very easy to do. If problem persist, then take it to the dealer. I knew many ppl which including me have the same problem but after the fluid swap, the problem is gone. Taking it to the dealership will only waste your time and maybe money because they are going to tear down the clutch. I don't know about you but I know my clutch is fine and I don't want anyone to tear it apart.
