Question Am I cheating my sub out of its full potential?

My 10" sub (powered by JL audio 500/5 amp) is hitting hard (according to my standards), but I am wondering...am I cheating the sub out of its full potential? I am not an audio expert, so I don't know if the box below is too small for the sub.

I am thinking about upgrading to this:

Anybody know the difference in sound I will get? Does a bigger box mean bigger/louder/deeper sound? Help! I don't really want to upgrade boxes if I won't hear a BIG difference in sound quality/loudness.

not necessarily... depends on the specs of the box... u gonna go with ported or sealed?. looks like sealed...

ported = louder, but less sound quality
sealed= hits more preciesely, but will also get loud..

just make sure the box is made for the sub..

What is box volume requirements of your current sub and box? Bigger can be worse after a certain point.

This is my buddy's car with his old setup.

I would say go with a SEALED box.
1) Your not running much power.(however I don't know what your subs spec are).
2) A sub in a sealed box requires less power & takes up less space. Sounds much better.
Your main concern is air space rather than shape of the box.

I got a speaker in a ported box right now w/ 3.5 cubic feet air space , however am switching to a sealed box due to space requirement of the G.

If you were to switch anything get a new Sub.

I was trying to convey that the pic at the bottom of baylorsig's post WAS my buddy's car, not just a pic of a car that looked like that pic.
