For those of you all who've had the double din conversion done, how much did the install cost? Are you all having any problems (rattling, poor wiring, etc)?
I have gotten quotes from a couple of car audio shops for ~$150, and up to ~$400-$500 from more "celeb profile - high quality" shops.
I am not sure if I should take the risk and go with the shops for ~$150, or if $400 is worth the money (more quality) or if it is just a ripoff.
Afterall, an install is an install. I am not a professional so I do not know how hard this conversion is, therefore the monetary value.
If you have JDM parts then you shouldn't have any rattling or fitment issues.
As for the install...
It's not that hard to splice wires.
Do you have navigation?
What kind of head unit? More than just a CD or DVD player?
Or is it a head unit that displays your cars diagnostics as well?

$175 at my local shop. That included their harnesses and any extra wires they needed.
I do not have a stock navigation. I am installing a Kenwood Excelon DDX7015.
I think I will go with the shop that quoted me $150. He said his shop has had 16 years experience of custom installations. The other shop, who deals with very high-end installations, quoted me $400, and said it is because the process is very tedious and if not done right could scew up my circuits and also there is a chance there will be a lot of "loose" parts and rattlings (but that's what the harness prevents, right?).
I am going to take a chance with the shop that doesn't usually do $10,000+ installations for "celeb-like" cars and competition/magazine cars...hopefully it will turn out great.
Your shop will need to provide the two Nissan wire harnesses and the Nissan antenna adapter if you don't already have them. PAC makes a steering wheel interface so you can retain your steering wheel controls. It's the PAC-JACK.

To install head unit, run 2 sets of rca cables, new amp power cables, install steering wheel controls, and setup my amp and deck for me for optimal sound it cost me 160 at a 5 star rated shop, they've won like 1000 awards for best installer in town too (like 2 whole walls full of plaques) If u have all the parts its easy as pie is what they said. 400 is a fuckin ripoff, they were gonna fabricate me a carbon fiber center console since i didn't have the finisher piece originally and only charge me 390 for that install...
I would go with the more expensive shop for some piece of mind. If they are doing celeb type installs than they are more likely to back up their work should something go wrong. Not to say anything against the other shop but remember the old saying."You get what you pay for".

I just saw a thread somewhere about one of those big 'celeb' shops that charged some guy 100k and they hacked his truck up. He took it somewhere else to get the work fixed...
