Like it says, I'm using more oil than before.
When she was new I used a quart at 2400mi. My previous old post on this condition, it was concluded not to worry cuz it's new and still kidda breaking in.
Well, now I've had to add 2 quarts before my second oil change, which is being done today.
One quart added at 2200mi. after first oil change and the second quart added after 1200mi. She's now at only 7700mi. total.
Asked dealer what up with this and they said Nissan finds 1 quart every 1000mi acceptable and the service guy said it's due to the high engine vaccuum in these 298hp VQ's especially when you accelerate hard.
At least they noted this consumption on their computer (by my request) so it's documented.
Anyone else experiencing this kind of oil consumption?
A quart of oil every 1000 miles? Am I totally off here, or is this the biggest crock of shit? Somehow that doesn't seem to make sense. It would if the G was a '76 chevy.

It sounds like you might have a problem on your hands. I haven't noticed the oil level in my car drop even one spec on any of my oil changes or oil check intervals during the entire 20K miles that I've owned my car(bought it brand new in April of 2004).
What kind of oil are you using?... and in what weight?

I do play hard, but only rarely.
That is total BS! If one quart every 1000 miles was acceptable, you would have only 2 quarts left at oil change time (3250mi) and I KNOW that is bad. I think you need to take it back to the dealer, or another one, and demand that they take a serious look. My sedan has almost 60K miles and it does nor use a cup of oil in 3000 miles.
I totally agree.
Did hear somewhere, other than dealer, that some of the VQ's do this and Nissan/Infiniti doesn't know why, but if if consumes more than a quart every 1000, then they'll replace the engine. Wish I could find the resource to actually confirm that statement from Nissan/Infiniti.
Told the dealer thats really sad for a engine with only 7700 miles on it and I broke it in correctly for the first 1200, well most of the time . I could see that useage if it were an engine with over 100k and never maintained and blue smoke.
The oil I've been using is whatever Nissan/Infiniti uses for their oil changes (they do them) and it's 5-30wt. When I would add, I'd use Chevron 5-30.
I think the hard acceleration and high vaccuum thing is BS. I don't drive it like I stole it that often.
What's weird is there's never any blue smoke. Even had my son follow me while I did some WOT runs and three pulls on a recent dyno, no smoke.
Wonder if there's a TSB on this...anyone know?
Thank you for the post!!! I will check my oil today when I get home!!! I changed it last @ 7500mi and now just past 9000mi on her. this will show if I have the same problem. - i do hate that dip stick though!!!
+1000
Agree...that's the most retarded dipstick and location I've ever seen.
Deff a PITA.
Quick tip:
Check oil when on level ground and when it's been sitting for a long time.
Checking when just running, say at a gas station, is worthless. There's so much oil up in the tube you can't really tell where the Efin oil level is on the stick no matter how many times you wipe it and reinsert it.
Oh...and this is talked about a lot on the Z fourms too, oil comsumption wise.
well I am screwed then... my car sits on a hill when overnight - and yea.. reading that thing at a gas station is impossible. i'll have to try "rolling" the car to a level surfase for an oil check...
You should remove your intake pipe and check if there is an excessive amount of blowby carbon or oil being deposited on the walls of the intake pipe, throttle control assembly, or upper intake plenum on the engine side of the crankcase ventilation port.
