Default 3rd 06MT Problem....CLUTCH

My car has 8800 miles on it. I was pulling out from a side street unto a main street. When I went from 1st to 2nd the car acted like it was in nutral. I put it into every gear and all it did was redline when I stepped on the gas but would build power. Sat on the side of the road for a few minutes then it started to enguage but the car wouldnt go past 3krpms in 6th gear or 60mph in any gear. Everytime I rev I smell burnt clutch. I dont race the car so the clutch has no reason to be going out. Ive been driving sticks for years so its not like its because I lacked experiance. So..

Is this going to be covered under warrenty?
How much is a new clutch?
Who makes a good upgraded clutch?

I've heard differing views on this. I've heard some say it's a "disposable/wearable" item like pads so it would not be covered. Due to your experience with standard vehicles and the lower mileage on your car, I would definitely not let a dealer tell me it is not covered. That being said, some dealers may say it's not covered and some will say it is covered. I'd definitely go to the dealer with the problem and request they fix it.

It does sound like a burnt clutch, but one thing that bothers me is that the car won't go past 3,000 rpms in 6th. I would think your problems would be really bad in the lower gears around 2,000 rpms. Does the car rev freely in neutral?

The problem with one of these clutches is it's going to affect the driveability of the car. If you are truly slipping the clutch a more robust clutch would mean a really big left leg after 3 months with an upgraded clutch.

Damn it really does sound like the clutch only. Well take it to the dealer and best of luck getting this problem resolved.

Cool

Don't be surprised if it's not covered, it IS a wear and tear item after all.

Sounds about right. I took my car in for service to listen for excessive clutch chatter. You know what the dealer did? They adjusted the clutch, then blamed the chatter on my iPod adapter hooked to the AUX in the on stereo! How the hell does it affect the clutch? No one at the dealership could answer. When I asked if there have been a lot of complaints with regards to the clutch knowing all the postings here on 6MT and they said, no. BS. Damn idiots.

you should be fine with it being covered under warranty....even if it is a wear and tear item it should be covered under the basic warranty, its not like its like a headlight bulb or something, its the clutch, i wouldnt be worried about it being covered...i've worked for some dealerships and they were always covered under basic

it doesn't matter if it's covered under warranty or not. it's a "CUSTOMER SERVICE ISSUE"

you're an experienced driver and 8000 miles is way to early for something like this to be happening, so it's worth an inspection and a courtesy fix.
