i have an 05 6mt coupe with about 1700 miles on it. when i am in say 2nd or 3rd gear going @ ~2500 rpm and i give a lot of gas (almost flooring it) i hear this sound coming from the engine that sounds like metal chains scrapping against the ground or like pieces of metal being shaken in a can...but when the rpm is 3000+ rpm...the noise disappears........any input? normal? something wrong?
another question: what is the best way to launch our G. THANKS!
It could be, oh I don't know, a metal chain? JK, Hmmm I don't think that is normal. My car doesn't make any noise like that. It might be a time to take a trip to the dealershit. Make sure they know what you're talking about sometimes dealershits wants to play stupid.
Definitely isn't normal. Check your oil and tranny fluid for metal just to be safe. Sounds like it could just be a loose panel or something, but definitely take it to the dealer just to be safe.

Just got a call from my dealership service department this morning regarding what is "normal" for the car.
So far:
-excessive clanking, rattling noise from clutch = normal.
-clicking/popping noise from front suspension while making slow sharp turns (i.e. 3 point turn in tight spot) = normal.
-noise from my rear quarter panel = I'm hearing things
-play on driver seat / slight rocking of driver seat = normal
-popping noise when i pull my hand brake while rolling backwards = normal
There are some other things but i'll refrain from going on too much. I say to the guy, "so all these things that shouldn't be normal is considered normal for this car?" and the guy says "exactly".
My car has done what you describe since the day i got it. Still does it and it still annoys. Chaulk it up to the clutch noise or "normal" noise that this car makes. I sense that, even though the car is well engineered (overall), Nissan is trying to minimize loss for a few oversights/mistakes. I would also like to believe that they would have corrected these things after the 1st major revision to the model (2 years).
Just my take.

mav555, thank you very much. on a side note...i hear that the new 06's made a vast improvement on the clutch....no more chatter.
yup... as far as the noise is concerned, i'm assuming they don't know why its happening. They don't deny the noise is there. They just told me they checked out the suspension and everything is okay... so don't worry about it
I'm fine with it, although it is embarrassing and definitely shouldn't be happening in a "premium" brand car but as long as they ok'd it.
Only thing that really concerns me about this is that during high speed near limit cornering (turning left, medium curve) i have experienced wheel hop in the front passenger side wheel. I found this to be very odd and concerning. Thought if they fixed the noise while turning, it would correct this as well. Guess i'm gonna have to look elsewhere.

well, I havent experienced any wheel hop in the front passenger side wheels during high speed cornering. however I worry my wheel or suspension may come loose during highway speeds or fast cornering. At least I have complained to the dealer numerous times, so it's documented at 3 different dealership service dept.

you ever get noises when going over sharp bumps like somethings loose (especially with the suspension)?
Yeah, feels like the whole damn things gonna fall off sometimes. Well, its documented at the least.
Gotta think of someway to get that fixed. I thought of trying different dealerships... i guess you've tried that already. Maybe i'll get lucky at one of the dealer service depts.
You think if we write enough threatening and dis-satisfaction letters to infiniti, they'll swap our car out for an '06? That'll be the day...

I say be an ass and tell them this is unacceptable, and you are driving their loaner until they fix the issues. The car IS covered under warranty. At least you will get some free miles/wear and tear.

This is interesting that you mention this. Soo I am thnking now that it is common to have the sharp sounds like a loud knock in the front suspension when hitting a harder bump? I think mine got a little louder after putting sway bars on. I have been experiencing the knocks for a while and was worried it was to do with the sway bar install but I know I did everything perfect. Anyone else have this?
