Default Your Plenum Spacer thoughts?

Well, after 2 1/2 weeks without the G, I should get her back on Wednesday. Almost as much anticipation as when I first got it. As a 'welcome home' gift, I was going to break down and do an (low$) intake mod. A fellow forumite suggested passing on the CAI route and going with a Ztube, and consider a plenum.

My search readings have led me to considering the Hydrazine plenum spacer. 3/8" to retain the engine cover. So for those who have done the install or may otherwise know...

* How difficult tis the install?
* Any impact to the mfr.s warrantee?
* Easily reversed if desired?
* for CA, any emmissions impact (I doubt).

Other thoughts, recommendations? BTW, I'm guessing the group buy scenario has passed?

Thanks all,
FFWD

Have you checked out Tony's page?

http://www.motordyneengineering.com/g35.asp

Very easy how-to here, and what tools you will need, and what the kit comes with:

http://www.motordyneengineering.com/installHTML.asp

As for warranty...well if you go 3/8 and put the cover back on, there is no way they can tell you did it, short of looking for it, the finish on the spacer is even the same as the engine, and it's very unobstrusive. If the dealer DOES see it, I'm still not sure it really would void anything, but I don't honestly know.

I'd wager with the right tools and if you know a fair bit on engines, the install is pretty simple and shouldn't take you more than an hour or 2 if you take your time really. For reversal, it would be a snap too, the only thing you would need is to get a new stock gasket to revert things by following the reverse order of the link above. Emissions won't be an issue, since you are not bypassing the Cats or messing with the ECU, the only thing you are really doing is letting the engine get MORE air, which the ECU will take into account and work with the same as it always did, not affecting emmisions output in the least.

I guess if you go 1/2 you can just put a Z engine cover on the G.

That's what I'm doing, I'm looking for a 350z cover.

If you scope driver out, someone mentioned the idea of drilling a tap hole in the spacer to acccomodate NOS!

I think this is a great idea because if shit goes wrong, take off the spacer and let the warranty get you a new VQ.

I've heard positive feedback regarding it. Install should actually be easier than a replacement plenum. Plus it's more affordable than the other aftermarket plenums.

I say go for it. If you decide for whatever reason that you don't like it I'd imagine that it wouldn't be too hard to sell it.

It shouldn't void your warranty. But if you wanted to remove it in a hurry it shouldn't take you more than half an hour.

even with 1/2" You can put the engine cover on.

I have to say it definitely provided the much needed air at top rpm range, my car pulls just as hard if not harder at high rpms now. Quite a upgrade and extremely easy to install.

the only difficulty is that there is no torque wrench that would do 61 inch pounds or 5 ft pounds that i could find...

Ivory: Sears has a Craftsman one

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...=CRAFT#tablink

that does 5-80 ft-lbs.

So looks like I'm going to go for it. Thanks for your thoughts. I have exchanged e-mail with Tony.

On the latest note though, $100 for the torque wrench kinda defeats the cost-effectiveness of the spacer option. I think I'll just go easy with the torque wrench I already have. And more importantly, since when has Sears Craftsman tools gone with a 90 day warranty? I thought any tool you don't plug in had a lifetime guarantee from there???

see what happens whtn they replace Bob Vila with Ty Pennington?

Instead of the Craftsman, you can go with the $16.99 one from Harbor Frieght that goes from 0-80 ft-lbs.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...itemnumber=807

I need to buy a Torque Wrench any ways and I wanted to get one that will last.....so I'm going to get the Craftsman....however, if you want to go the cheaper route, then the Harbor Freight one is available.

Thanks lazee, but I plan to go with the 3/8 and retain the G cover. and thanks Memephis for the follow on, I will keep that one in mind. I need to check the range on the torque wrench I own (if I can find it..it's been 6 years and 3 moves since I unpacked it).
