Default How to Remove the Center Console?

Has anyone removed the center console for a 5AT? I found some instructions at freshalloy and G35driver, but got stuck at the part just after taking the shift knob off. I got that off with no problems, but could not get the circular plate off.

Most instructions just say to pull the back first, then the front since there are no screws (just clips), but I couldn't get it off. Didn't want to pull too hard since I'm afraid of breaking something.

Any insight?

By the way, I'm trying to remove it so I can run some wires from the power outlet in the arm rest compartment to the cup holder area in order to power my iPod. I built a docking station for it that I'm putting in the cup holder area. It's gonna be sweet!! And even sweeter once Blitzsafe comes out with the AUX kit.... I can't wait...

I've removed the console. You followed the correct procedure. Pull up on the rear of the console just in front of the storage box. It does take quite a bit of force to get it up. Once the back is up, you'll need to pull the front back as you lift up. Gently, but with enough force to get the clips to come looks. Good luck!

So, do you not need to remove the circular plate directly underneath the shifter?

Ken, you didn't forget to remove the shifter knob did you?[] Everything should come right on off after you remove the shifter knob.

Edit: [dunce] I should have read better the first time.[hypno]

That's a rookie move there, rlipps... [bigmouth]

Knob was very easy to remove. It's the circular plate I'm was having trouble with. I thought there would be some connections to unplug under there, but from the sound of it, seems like that plate can stay and I just need to give the whole console a nice big pull. I'm just scared I'll break something (I know, I'm a wuss!). I also don't want to scratch that nice shiny finish by trying to pry underneath with a screwdriver or something.

Can someone confirm that the circular plate on the 5AT stays put?

Reference step #21 on this page: http://g35ipod.com/installHW.php

Let me know if you need me to clarify anything.

Sorry Mike, I think I misunderstood and got this confused with another thread. If you were referring to removing the console underneath the gear shifter, you simply need to pull up from the back. Once you pull it off the first time, all subsequent time(s) are easier. The same link in my previous post has detailed instructions (step 20, instead of 21).

Good luck.
