Default Intalling a Dvd & TV Tuner to the Stock NAV LCD

I already have a stock NAV system. I also want to watch DVDs using the Stock LCD screen. Now I know that nobody knows how to mod the stock Nav drive to read DVDs so I would need to buy aftermarket components. For those who have already done this, or know what is needed, can you please post what components you've had to buy and how you got it installed.

I found some info on this from G35Driver.com but it seems to be a bit out of date. I'm sure there are way better/cooler modules that we can use now days.

Here's the link on G35Driver.com:
http://g35driver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34795

I'm guessing I would at least need
1) DVD with a TV Tuner drive
2) a switcher to switch between DVD drive and Nav drive

I'm not familiar with any of the brands though.

That's as far as my knowledge goes with this stuff as of now. Please let me know what some of you have done and what you guys would recommend.

Thanks.

i bought all my stuff from avelectronics and what i read (skimmed) seems to be accurate.

my dvd sound is through a fm tuner but i'm sure they have a way to directly link it now. if u can directly link it, u can play mp3's on ur dvd player and it should sound good. right now, the sound quality is fine for the tv and dvd, but mp3's are not that great.

hope this helps.

Default Intalling a Dvd & TV Tuner to the Stock NAV LCD

TVandNav2Go module (http://www.tvandnav2go.com/). This is a plug and play module to be inserted between your current monitor and the DVD Navigation. With TVand Nav2Go module, there are 2 video inputs. Input 1 can be use for personal DVD player and Input 2, you can attach a rearview camera. TVandNav2Go has a switch so can choose to view either a video from portable DVD player or your navigation. (So you can switch back to Navigation just in case you got pulled-over heheeee!

For audio, you would need PAC Audio AAI-NIS. This connects to your SAT but only works for 2003-2004 model G35.

If you want to control your audio using your steering control, then you would need the optional PAC SWIX.

If you want rearview camera, TVandNav2Go has a wire that connects to your back-up light. When you put your G35 on reverse, TVandNav2go senses power from your back-up light, the display will automatically diverted to your rearview camera and video will show up in your screen.

For video installation:
Portable DVD player - TVandNav2Go - OEM Navigation screen displays the video

For audio installation:
Sound from portable DVD player - PAC Audio/SWIX - sound through your stereo system

So basically, this is what you need:

1. TVandNav2Go module
2. PAC Audio AAI-NIS
3. PAC SWIX (optional)
4. Pioneer ND-BC1 Universal Rear-View Camera
5. Portable DVD player. This is what I'm getting. http://www.cardomain.com/item/BRASD20USB A little big but has the features I wanted. It has built-in TV tuner also plus USB connection.

I already have TVandNav2Go. Just waiting for the rest to come in the mail.

Good luck on the install.

Hey SDG35, thanks for all the info. From what I've researched and if I do decide do do this project I was thinking of going with TVandNav2Go (Plug & Play) with PAC Audio AAI-NIS. I didn't know about the PAC SWIX, now that I do know I'd definately want to go with that too, I'd love to have the rear camera (but that's extra $$$) and of course the DVD Playter with TV Tuner.

BTW, I heard PAC discontinued the current PAC Audio AAI-NIS model and they're going to start manufacturing a newer model at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb. which will allow you to utilized both the Satellite radio and an extra audio source (such as DVD player). I've only heard this info from somone else from another forum, not sure if it's completely true.

Also, are you going to do this installation yourself or are you going to have pay some one to do it for you? If you are going to do the installation yourself I would greatly appriciate if you take notes step by step to how to DIY and post it up. Personally I don't have a clue about installing any of these modules. I know i'm asking for a lot here but hey if I don't ask I'll never get it anyways right?

The only thing thats holding me from doing this project is the financial factor vs the end result, because:

estimated costs
--------------------------------
1. TVandNav2Go is $200
2. PAC Audio AAI-NIS $80
3. PAC SWIX $50
4. Pioneer ND-BC1 Universal Rear-View Camera $200
5. DVD player w/ TV Tuner $120

total about: $650 (shipping and installation costs not included)

So I think to myself if it's worth to spend lets say some how ends up costing $400(ish) (w/o the rear camera) to have the luxury of playing (not even really watching) a DVD in a car that most likely is only me in there and max another person...

But in any case GOOD LUCK with your installation and I'm looking forward to seeing your result with this.

I had Audio Exchange in National City, CA do the install. For DVD player, I used Sony DVP-FX705. It's very slim and fits in the glove box and can even put service manual in the glove box with the DVD player. It only measures 7" x 6.5" x 1". I had two switches installed in the ash tray. One switch for switching between Navigation and DVD and the other one is the override switch for the DVD player so I don't have to open and reach in the glove compartment to turn the DVD player off. The reverse camera works good as well. It's connected to the reverse light and overrides whatever on the screen as soon as you put the car on reverse.
