Luckily the 750 ironed out alot of the problems, but I am worried what will happen when the warranty is over and im sure a car with this much crap it in will start breaking down. Im thinking as soon as the warranty is over, better just sell the car.

I'm still a sucker for the looks of the E38 body (can't stand the "Bangle Butt" on the newer ones) so I'm in a bit of a conflict with myself there as far as ridding myself of these maintenance whores. As to maintaining them out of warranty, I can tell you that it's not just the fact that they break that's so irritating, but the ridiculously over-complicated R&R procedures required to fix the shit that breaks and makes the labor costs go through the roof. Needless to say, parts costs are absurd and EVERYTHING has a sensor or three associated with it so there's always the recoding and recalibrating and so on.
I always imagined that BMW design engineers must have had a bitter, seething, and contemptuous distain for their 'brothers', the service technicians. The utter obsurdity of the inaccessablity for routine maintenance items is laughable (if you're not paying for it). On my 750iL, I was recently quoted over 7 hours of labor required to R&R just the rear shocks; 5 hours of that was to R&R the reclining rear seats, the c-pillar mouldings and lights, entire rear deck, speaker assembly beneath the deck, etc....just to get access to the upper shock tower bolts!!!!!! What's more, they can't guarantee that this is even going to fix the problem...I finally got them to admit they were "shotgunning"....could still be the EDC computer is flakey.
Oh shit, I've run off again. So sorry!
SO...yah, I'd recommend against ever owning a BMW out of warranty.
