you are dead on with your ferrari comments and it being a status symbol...thats all ferrari has, because MANY other companies have surpassed them on the performance aspect.
When you pull up in a 360 Modena (or whatever ferrari) you are showing up for real, people arent saying "man, my uncles Z06 would rape that" they are saying "damn that thing looks sweet, what a pussy magnet"
When a Z06 pulls up people say "man thats a fast vette"...and thats about it.
But just the pure fact of knowing that if you ended up on the same stretch of open highway with one of the Prancing Arabian Horses, he would likely try to avoid you..as to not have his ass handed to him.
People buy these "supervettes to go fast"...many of them can afford the more prestigious cars but they want the "baddest" car out.
A ferrari has that smooth, beauty, elegant appeal....whereas a super vette has that badboy appeal so sometimes that has a lot to do with it to...what do you want your car to say about you. A supervette also says "i'm a hillbilly that made it"...
