Although I agree that the Vette will continue to be the "bang for the buck" car in it's segment, I disagree with the part about it beating out Ferrari's and such.
No matter what GM does, the Vette will never shake it's rep. The Vette actually has a longer history than most Ferrari's do and the C5-R and C6-R's have been dominating their class in racing for quite some time now, but it has not translated into the status symbol the likes of Ferraris/Porsche/etc., unlike the same manufacturers I just mentioned.
It's a stima that GM will find extremely difficult to ever change. Remember the Vette was pretty much created (originally) by GM by stuffing a large small block V8 into a reltaively mild roadster chassis. Unlike the "engineered" cars from Ferrari/etc.
Since most people with wealth don't buy Ferrari's and Lambo's for their pure performance, rather for it's "status" symbol, the Vette will possibly never change that in peoples' psychies.
That said, this killer Vette will undoubtedly sell. Why? Because those who can't afford the Ferrari's/Lambo/etc. will flock to this car for 2 reasons:
1. they can't afford the status symbols
2. now they can say that they can "hang" with the supercars
But I'd argue that they'll only "hang" in performance only and probably not in the status symbol dept.
