Actually GZ, when the term "center mass" is used it basically means body mass exclusive of extremities. So the term "center mass" in terms of marksmanship means the small area of the sternum, which is above the belly button.
Also, head shots are something that only snipers care about. Just imagine being in a fire fight and trying to aim for the head. Why would you do attempt to aim for a smaller target in that chaos than the larger one of the torso? In battle you can be right or you can be dead trying to look good.
