Okay, I take the accounts from the Gospels of Jesus to be quite literal, but to take the old testament literally is pretty far fetched.
The Old Testament says that your son SHOULD BE KILLED if he so disobeys his parents. Do you think that literally means your son should be executed? No, it's just to show you how severe the sin of disobeying your parents is by comparing it to a form of punishment.
but you can take the Bible as literal as you'd like, just make sure you actually read the Bible before you speak of how to interpret it.
