Took it long enough.. I never understood why someone would spend more for a UMD than for a DVD, esp when portable DVD players aren't that expensive these days..

Thats Sony's problem though.. They keep trying to become innovators by introducing some new device, and force the consumer to buy some media that isn't widely used..

Blu-Ray looks like its losing all its support before the PS3 will even be released.. HD-DVDs are backward compatible (dual sided) and, I believe, a little cheaper..

I actually bought one of their Mini-Disc players in the late 90s.. I bought it since you could record a CD straight from the player.. Shortly after, CD-Rs got cheaper and burners were faster..

Luckily I was able to return the player.. Still have a pack of Mini-Discs somewhere in my room
