.11 means nothing to me. its a number. i know i was fine.
It is just that, an arbitrary number. It happens to have science behind it to show the impact of that level of alcohol in a human's bloodstream, but there is no way to quanitify it in the real world without some sort of gadget. Our implicit agreement to follow the rules of the road, given when we earned our driver's licence, means we'll accept and understand this number.

To be quite honest, I don't know my limit either. I figure I have less than two "average" beers before I go over 0.08, so if I'm going to drive I wait an hour per beer/drink over that limit before doing so. I'm a little guy, 145lbs, the alcohol has a much bigger impact on me than the "average" person.

I'm not sure, but I remember from Driver's Ed that a 150lb person can drink two beers in an hour and blow less than (or just about) 0.08. Figure for 150lbs, each average drink is 0.04. So far as labelling, this is a very good question. Do we need a (another?) law for this?

I think partyman has it right - if you're planning on going out drinking, consider some method to determine if you're safe to drive. Or, take the safe route, get a cab.

The groups that say "don't drink" are ridiculous radical groups that are finding themselves squeezed between a dropping DUI rate and falling funding. They are just trying to get more money from those who are trying to impart some form of "morality" on the masses with off-base statements and aims.

Frankly, aside from a radical few, most people don't care what other people do so long as it doesn't impact them personally. Do what one will, just don't turn one's decisions into risk for the rest of us.
