Perhaps the ripple effect will create a higher awareness among the community kids of the dangers associated with underage joyriding, and force Compton parents to reassess their responsibilities as parent and role model to their children. So many things were/went wrong but the mother's advocacy of her daughter's law-breaking so long as it benefitted her is simply unconscionable. She will have to deal with that burden for the rest of her life.
