Amen Brothers. It HAS become time consuming separating the wheat from the chaff lately. There is ZERO value in opening a serious topic of interest only to find the thread denigraded into chit chat, schoolboy drool or winking smilies. If a thread doesn't contain 95% pertinent posts, I just mentally shitcan it. But that still doesn't address the frustration of seeing the same poster(s) consistently adding little more than their .02+ of drivel.
That aside, while I enjoy this site because it offers an air of casual levity, I want real content...although a little sizzle with my steak is ok too. So I applaud LC for trying to draw those who could not stay on topic to the correct forum board. Frankly, I think anybody should be able to post and/or anything they want there - racey, sick, selfish or just want to hear yourself talk - I don't care, just put it there.
In addition to keeping the chat in the Off Topic Forum, a couple of other simple suggestions that might help add value and enjoyment:
1.) let all people (particularly women!) post a serious question topic and respect their thread with serious replys. The vast majority of replys should be to offer meaningful, constructive help or concrete info. Nobody, including the thread starter, likely wants to hear a bunch of unrelated or speculative drivel - they're after a definitive answer. If you don't know, DON'T REPLY!
2.) make a genuine effort to SEARCH please...BEFORE posting a question! Regardless of how generous, nice and helpful other members may be at times, don't "rely" on them to become your personal search engine. What makes you think their time is any less valuable than yours? Do it your own lazy azz self and become a contributor rather than a taker. Besides, odds are very good that a detailed answer to your question already exists and is readily accessible in the forum posts archives.
Thanks, Lippy, I feel better now too.
